Born in 1898, Mr. Meyer graduated from Stevens Trade School, Lancaster, Pa., and attended the Lowell Institute, and M.1.T. for three years. Mr. Meyer was a noted wrestling coach, swim- ming coach and referee. Recently, he was in charge of the (swim- ming pool) War Memorial. Mr. Eugene Fitzgerald, who taught in this school for thirty years both as an English teacher and as head of the English: department, died in May, 1965. The faculty and student body will always remember the influence exerted on them by these two teachers. Prologue We of the yearbook staff had the assignment of capturing the memories, spirit, and feeling of four years of our lives, and of put- ting these delicate intangibles into book form. How does one convey an inner feeling, a spirit in words? Obviously, it can not be done. Nevertheless we attempted it; but all we could do was present a com- bination of pictures and names which we hope will stir memories in the future. We have done our share of the job of keeping Rindge alive in your minds, the rest is up to you. Ss oe = “No Q YA 3 aS MR. JOHN M. TOBIN Superintendent of Schools EBRUARY 1965 iT ee a — 7 MR. Since the school. was founded, in 1888, students have belonged to clubs or participated in school sponsored events. Activities enable a student to relate himself to the school; and without them school spirit would just be a word. Students and teachers alike devote their time and energy to these after school affairs and in doing so establish a line of communications which carries over into the classroom where such cooperative effort really pays off. Mr. Fogg has long been the faculty advisor for the Rindge Register whose quality is attested by the fact that it sells as well at that school across the li- brary lawn as it does at Rindge. Mr. Parris, who faces the same problem every yeat—the meeting of deadlines—has proved an excellent advisor for the Yearbook Staff. The Key Club, which has been a credit to the community as well as to the school for many years, has Mr. Bourdeau as its able advisor. Mr. Sateriale, as Senior Class Advisor, keeps a watchful eye on the budget as he directs us in putting on the many functions which are necessary to ease the financial pains of graduation. The future of the Drama Club which was reactivated last year through the efforts of Mr. Guest, Mr. Crawley and others, was assured by a sparkling performance of “No Time for Sergeants’. A new organization, the Varsity Club, whose membership is limited to Rindge lettermen, was set up by Mr. Richards with the cooperation of Mr. Terry, the Faculty Manager, and the various coaches. The purpose of this group is to increase attagdance at sports events and to promote a program of intramural contests which are designed to make it possible for all students to participate in some form of athletics. Mr. Parris has a full complement of students at the Saturday morning physics lectures at Harvard, and Mr. Sateriale’s Math Club is not really a club but a “Do or Die” math class which meets Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Activities have and always will play an important role in the molding of the Men of Rindge. 53 Brathwaite, Stephen Pellitrino, Robert DiPace. Led by a handful of seniors and a few juniors, the Drama Club was able to successfully produce, “12 Angry Men.” This success- ful first step was only the beginning. The following November 1, with a few of last year’s veterans, the Drama Club began rehearsing for, “No Time«for Sergeants.” As work on this production progressed, many new recruits were enlisted to take part. Many hours of rehearsal followed until finally, on January 21 and 22, 1966, the show was put on for the public; it met with great success (even more so than the previous year’s performance) and was widely acclaimed by all who saw it. Mr. Robert Guest of Cambridge High and Latin School directed the play with Miss Paula Marmon as his assistant. Mr. Al Accordi did an excellent job in the make-up department. Scenery construction was handled by Jeffrey Briggs, class of ’66, and Michael Benevento, class of ’66, served as stage manager. Now that the drama club has been revived here at Rindge, we the graduating Seniors hope that it will prosper and eventually become a common spot of activity around Rindge. = $ ; ; ' SECOND ROW: Ronald Bates, Aaron Brathwaite, Kevin Gibbons, Louis Mello, Jeffrey Briggs, Austin Maxwell. The artist is one individual who has the unique advantage of satisfying both his spiritual and material drives at the same time. Today there are many opportunities for the individual who desires a career in art. Our ever-expanding economy has provided opportunities in such, fields as design, products design, and sales promotion. The days of the starving soul escaping from the realities of life are relegated to the archives of the past, for today’s artist is very much a part of the world in which he lives. The Rindge Art Course, while not training a student for specific work in the art field, certainly does introduce him to the field and enables him to acquire the foundation upon which to build. This course serves as an outlet for disciplined self-expression coupled with and ever-increasing appreciation of all the arts. All technical subjects today demand further education after graduation, and Art is no exception. However, talent enthusiasm, and hard, relentless work is very much needed for success. 6] OV, : Iter, x) po TSS CS Ce SN we XX c [=n - = THIRD ROW Asst. New head coach Edward Fratto worked well with a small nucleus of boys. The | final record of 1-6-1 does not show the play of the starting eleven. Special recognition should be given to the graduating seniors: Co-captains Tom Davis and Philip Gasper, Al Bowen, Thedis Cunningham, Jerome Connors, Leroy and Larry Waithe, Arthur Bonislowski, George Sealey, Severlin Singleton, Bob Hallissey, and Vernon Motris ... | is , ti . ap a THIRD ROW: Rudolph Szedga, Darryl Phillips, Randall Lindberg, David Phillips, James McGovern, Al Newton, Paul Perno SECOND ROW: Raymond Philpott, John Nichols, William Spencer, Nelson Pauao, Glenn Foster, Frank Vieira, Richard Crowley, Mil- ton Eubanks, George Rezendes. Crack Ceam On January 7, at Commonwealth Armory, the track team won all but one event on its way to breaking the previous 24 straight-win record held by Watertown since 1962. The track team has distinguished itself throughout the years by win- ning many state and Met League titles. Our record streak of 25 consecutive wins began with the last track meet of the 1962 season when our boys defeated many league champions on their way to the new record. Our victory over Wymouth the previous week had tied the old record and the following week it was shattered. The members of the track team who deserve special recognition for their season-long outstanding efforts are Aaron Brathwaite, Thomas Davis, Clarence Gaynor, Carl Griffin, Jerry Connors, Randall Lindberg, Thedius Cunningham, Al Newton, Raymond Philpott, Aurelio Wittaker, Frank Vieira. The senior members of the track team are Aaron Brathwaite, Tommy Davis, Carl Griffin, Jerry Connors, Randall Lindberg, Thedius Cunningham, David Phillips, Frank Vieira, Richard Turcotte. 69 SECOND ROW (left to right): Nelson Pauao,. William Spencer, David Phillips, Coach Reagen, Frank Vieira, Lafeyatte Bingham, Rich- ard Crowly. FIRST ROW: Raymond Philpot, Randell Lindbergh, Clarence Gaynor, Co-Captain Carl Griffen, Wayne Bingham, George Rezendes Cross Country Rindge’s undefeated Cross Country Team hoped to pick up where they left off last year, and they did win their first two meets against Somerville and B.C. High. The loss of veteran runners began to catch up with them. They lost three meets to Brookline, Malden Catholic, and CHLS, and in the State Meet Rindge, though valiantly trying, did not score a point. New boys on the team tried to carry the load but just didn’t have the experience they needed. The new boys who helped most were Randall Lindberg, Wayne Bingham, David Phillips, and Aurelio Whittikar. There are also some veteran runners who should be mentioned, Co-Captain Carl Griffen, Clarence Gayner, Lafayette Bingham, and Michael Bianco. 7I| SECOND ROW (left to right): Joseph Dove, Kenneth O’Donald, John McGarry, Kevin Duffy, John Mahoney, Joseph Mitchel, Richard Hayes, Gerald Leaman, Patrick Boyle, FIRST ROW: Thomas Jennings, Michael Sico, Co-Captains David Rouleau and Norman Leger, Paul Ciccolo, Manager David Hinds. Hockey Ceamt Our Senior year’s hockey team enjoyed one of its most successful seasons in 1966. Although the record was 5-7-2 it does not show the spirited play of the Technicians. The Rindgemen played in two of the best games of the year when they: nipped Newton 2-1 and beat Medford 4-3, scoring three goals in the last forty-three seconds, in one of the greatest comebacks in the league’s history. Selected to the All Star were Mike Sico and Tom Jennings. Departing Seniors are Dave Rouleau, Mike Sico, Norm Leger, Tom Jennings, Joseph Michell, and Paul Ciccolo. SS... 72 74 BACK ROW: William Sachioni, Robert Rice, Richard Johnson, Peter Williams, Gerald Franks FRONT ROW: Ray McGuirk, John DeLeo (co-captain), Gerard Cronin (co-captain) Robert Sullivan (manager) Swimming Ceam In the last few years, the Rindge Swimming Team has been very small compared to the teams they have swum against. This year, however, the team gtew in size and ability; but not in experience. The only seniors on the team were William Haynes, Frank Viera, and the co-captain John DeLeo. The team has not won a meet in the last two years: but the remaining underclassmen are very promising. L.R.—William Swartz, Alvin Bowen, Robert Hallissy, Willford Cox, Wayne Wood, Thedis Cunningham. Basketball Ceam After last year’s losing record, this year’s basektball team finished with 11-7, two games shy of the Tech Tourney qualification mark. It should be said though that there were several close games lost in- cluding one in the double overtime. High scorers for the Warriors were Bob Halissey with 10.5 points per game and Wayne Wood with 9.3 points per game. 75 ae ‘a cs, sreogs PPh eehee Momgrat Tres sip ; fiiete BACK ROW: Kenneth Holway, Philip Bertrand, Dickie Hayes, Gavin, Robert DiPace. The team is looking for a better season than it had in quite a few years. With seven out of nine starters returning Co-Captains James Greenidge and Lawrence Waithe are looking to improve on last year’s 3-15 record. Michael Coffey, Coach Gibson, George Gentile, Barry O’Brien, James Epilogue That we may render service worthy of ourselves is our objective. While we were striving for excellence in our scholarly pur- suits we learned through experience and not through the text the value of altruism.
