Wiseman from our midst, feel that we honor ourselves as a class and Rindge as a school by co-dedicating our Year Book to his beloved memory. For over twenty-five years Mr. Wiseman instructed and counselled Rindge students. To know him was to love and admire him as a man, a teacher and a friend. Though he has left us, his memory will ever serve as a beacon light for future Rindge students. Hardly had we recovered from the shock but knowing we will never recover from the loss of the passing of Mr. Wiseman when Mr. James MacDonald was called to his eternal reward. For twenty-seven years Mr. MacDonald served his alma mater faith- fully and well. He was an enthusiastic supporter of all athletic teams in addition to being an excellent teacher. Rindge can ill afford to lose men of Mr. MacDonald’s capabilities. Hence the Senior Class co- dedicates this year book in memory of Mr. James MacDonald. Requiescat in Pace Prologue Time is fleeting. The years at Rindge Technical High School have passed quickly, and its fond memories will fade in the hurrying succession of the years. If these pages in- spire happy reminiscences or even delay the dimming retro- spection a little, our efforts are amply repaid. MR. JOHN M. TOBIN Superintendent of Schools Mr. CHARLES G. HARRINGTON Assistant Superintendents of Schools Mr. EDWARD J. DANEHY MR. FRANCIS T. McCABE That name is known to every member of the Class of “52” as be- longing to a man who is just, farsighted, kind, and respected by all. Since his appointment as headmaster in 1950, any premature mis- giving evaporated; although we were juniors at the time, it was not long before the whole class knew him as he really is. We could not better express our enthusiasm for Mr. McCabe than to dedicate this year book to him and to wish for many future classes the honor of affiliation with this fine man, who has so strengthened our purposes and enlightened our paths during our stay at Rindge. 10 MR. WILLIAM J. KELLEHER Assistant Headmaster During our four years at Rindge it took many of us a little while to realize that school was not all play. Guiding us was the ever watchful eye of Mr. Kelleher. Many of us would not be taking part in this graduation if it were not for the sage advice given to us by this gentleman. Mr. Kelleher, as time goes on and we become more mature we will then realize the immense value of your guidance and counsel. MR. WILLIAM H. MAHONEY Faculty Advisor The Class of 1952 takes this opportunity to express its deep appre- ciation to the helmsman who has helped us steer a clear course through our senior year at Rindge. He has proved to be a staunch and steadfast mentor to the class. We shall long remember our wise, faithful and friendly advisor for his invaluable assistance and lasting inspiration. 1] 12 Mr. EUGENE M. FITZGERALD, Department Head, English Mr. CHARLES A. Kelleher we wish many years of good health so that he may continue his administrative duties in an impartial, conscientious manner. —To Mr. William Mahoney we leave a hockey team that will excel all previous Rindge hockey teams. —To Mr. Galligan we leave a new hat and coat for game time wear while watching his championship football team in action. —To Mr. Gunnar E. Haugh we leave a pretty blond secretary to help him in his work. —To Mr. Scott we leave a contract with Daniel F. O’Brien. —To Mr. Linehan we leave a locker full of lost books. —To Mr. O’Connell we leave an automatic test corrector. —To Mr. Norton McFadden we leave a lot of wind to keep him company. —To Mr. Lynch we leave a new joke book. —To Mr. Fahey we leave the hopes that the Register will come out some time before grad- uation. —To all detention room boys we are leaving four television sets, one for each room. We give thanks to the teachers who so patiently tolerated us. We feel however that the thought of our leaving in June made them bear up considerably. Having disposed of our worldly possessions, published and declared by us and for our last will and testament and at our request and in the presence of each other we hereunto sub- scribe our names as attending witnesses in Cambridge, Massachusetts, this fourth day of June 1951. THE CLASS OF “52” As sworn to the notorious public by Thomas Magnarelli The swearing was omitted because Miss Cassidy passed by as we were signing. THE CLASS OF “52” F. Y. MASSE HARDWARE CO. Hardware and B. P. S. Paints 249 Walden St., Cambridge TR 6-4755 59 Class History September 1948 marked the year for the seniors of today. It was that year that some four hundred and some odd number of boys really began the life they wanted to live. They were a smart bunch of boys and they were always well represented on the honor roll. One outstanding student was Haig Parechanian who has been on the honor roll every term of every year he has been in Rindge. Now that we have tested all the school’s equipment, books and other material, we feel that everything we have learned will always be with us. The Sophomore class was full of school spirit as they placed on the football squad some of the best players ever to have played for Rindge. In our class rooms we made new friends, and we showed the teachers that we weren’t afraid of them any more. The Junior year is one to remember, for it was that year that most of us grew up and began to act like human beings and men of distinction. Two junior members of the football team became heroes in the eyes of both the student body and the teachers. They were Bob Murphy and Tom Magnarelli who combined their talents to beat the great team of Somerville. In the winter of 1952 the Senior class began plans for a senior prom. They ran dances which in the eyes of the class were failures with the exception of the Christmas Dance. Talent night for us Seniors was a success, thanks to the assistance of our Senior advisor, Mr. Mahoney. The proceeds went towards our Yearbook, which is expected to be one of the best Rindge students have ever put out. We also have something else to be proud of, our Track Team, which included many seniors some of which were Tom Magnarelli, Bob Murphy, John Hassell, Richard Graham, and Fran- cis Looney. They broke records every week, the relay team set a record at the Bowdoin meet in New Hampshire. Rindge won that meet and received a trophy which is now in our trophy room at school. In those four long years we cannot forget the names of all the students who helped live our lives for us. We cannot forget the teachers who did all in their power to assist us in pre- paring for the long and strenuous journey which lies directly before us, and above all we cannot forget the good times that we spent after school with Mr. Kelleher. To we Seniors Rindge will always have room in our hearts for we were proud to be able to offer our scholastic ability and athletic ability to keep the name of Rindge Technical High School high in esteem. Our team brought honor and glory to the school in its many splendid and brilliant record breaking performances. In the Metropolitan Cross Country League, Capt. Francis Loomey was undefeated during the season and won the Championship held at the Fresh Pond course in Cambridge. In the Northeastern University Indoor Interscholastics, Rindge tied Medford High for third, with Charlie Jenkins winning the 600 yd. run in the record breaking time of 1 min. 16:2 see. and placing second in the high jump. George Hubbard was fourth in the 300 yd. dash and Capt. John Hassell tied for fourth in the high jump, with our Relay Team fourth. At the Mass. State Indoor Meet, Rindge placed second in Class A just 1 7 10 points behind Boston English. Charles Jenkins winning the 600 yd. run in 1 min. 16 sec. and taking second in the high jump; George Hubbard was second in the 300 yd. dash; Capt. John Hassell was third in the high jump and Francis Loomey fourth in the 1,000 yd. run. Our Relay Team won in 2 min. 25:1] sec., breaking a record which stood since 1937. Our Track Team won three dual meets, tied one and lost one in the Metropolitan League. Charles Jenkins established a new record of 1 min. 19:7 sec. in the 600 yd. run and the Relay Team turned in a 2 min. 5:3 sec. for a record breaking performance. At the Bowdoin College Invitation Interscholastics, our Track Team stepped into the championship class by taking first honors in competition with the best in New England, with Charlie Jenkins winning the 600 yd. run, Dick Bates taking third in the broad jump and George Hubbard fourth in the 300 yd. dash. Our outstanding Relay Team won in 2 min. 6:9 sec., breaking a record established by a former Rindge team in 1941. At the National Schoolboy Championship held at Madison Square Garden in New York, Charles Jenkins became the national champion by winning the National AAU 440 yd. run in 52:4 sec. and our Relay Team finished fourth on a time basis. Then came the dream of every Relay Team in winning the one mile relay in 3 min. 35:2 sec. at the Invitation Penn Relay Carnival held at Franklin Field, Philadelphia. With this event being run on a muddy track, after four days of rain, our championship Relay Team accom- plished this outstanding track achievement. We, the Senior Class of 1952, hail our Relay Team. and the first Rindge team — One Mile Schoolboy Relay Champions of America. New England Collegiate Athletic Bureau THOS. J. GIBSON — Baseball BASEBALL 1952 The Baseball Team has high hopes of improving its final league standing of last year or of possibly coming up with the Suburban League championship this year. Two Seniors, Bernard Cabral, veteran second baseman and John Yobaccio, veteran out- fielder, are the only seniors returning from last year’s starting nine. With 1951 victories over Brookline, Arlington, Watertown, St. Sebastian’s and the Har- vard Freshmen this could be an improved year. As we go to press many other Seniors and underclassmen will be heard from. Among the Seniors are Fran Wallace, John Clunan, Robert O’Dea and William McGuiness. With Mr. Gibson at the helm we know that no club we face will play smarter, better coached baseball than our Alma Mater. We, the Senior Class, wish Mr. Gibson many years of health and happiness during which time we know he will lead Rindge to greater heights. COMPLIMENTS CRIMSON CAFE — Specialties — Pizza Prof. Paul Keohane COMPLIMENTS ROTTENBERG PHARMACY 72 FOOTBALL AND THE CLASS OF “52” By JOHN ZEDON The 1952 football season proved to be a success as the Brownies compiled a 5-3-1-record, which was good enough for a fourth place berth in class B. Rindge opened the season against Lowell a tough class A power. The boys in Green and Gold drew first blood. Tom Magnarelli made a circus catch of a pass from Bob Murphy in the second period to account for the only Rindge tally. This touchdown ignited the Lowell club as they roared back to sum up a 19 to 7 win. Next on the list was Newton who as Lowell gave us a hard time. In the first period we have Bob Murphy scoring a touchdown on an interception. Rindge took a 13 to nothing lead at the end of the half. But in the second half Newton came back with a bang scoring thirteen points thus ending the game in a tie. The Brownies returned home to play host to a strong Fitchburg eleven. The game in itself wasn’t very exciting except for a touchdown by Tom Magnarelli. The following week Leominster came in expecting to beat the Green and Gold. They soon found out that Rindge wouldn’t be defeated as easily as they expected, instead they were the ones to be overpowered. Larry Plenty’s three touchdowns sparked Ted Galligan’s Tech team to a major upset over the highly rated power of Leominster. This was the upset of the school- boy football season. The final score of the game was in our favor 26 to 0. Back on the road Rindge stopped off at Lawrence Central High where they gave us a tough time defeating us by a score of 6 to 0. In the first period Rindge gained a considerable amount of yardage but was unable to go all the way and score. The Brownies spent the next week drilling for the game to be played with Concord the coming Saturday. Concord previous to playing Rindge had won 35 games without a loss, and a defeat by Rindge would surely be glorious for the Green and Gold. Concord surely lived up to its name as a football power and as a result started the game off in high gear, scor- ing in the first two minutes of the game. Rindge fumbled on the opening play and Concord took advantage of it and went all the way to tally. This didn’t stop Concord from scoring again for they went on to score sixteen more points and thus a 33 to 12 victory. St. John’s of Danvers came into Russell only to take a very bad beating. The Techni- cians rolled out five T.D.’s. St. John’s was desperate for a win but all this fighting was in vain because they lost the game by a 30 to 0 score. Cambridge Latin, our rivals from across the way, became our next victims as they went down almost without a fight. It proved that Rindge again was the better of the two teams. It also gave Rindge Tech the city championship once again. Rindge was too much for Latin as we snowed them under to a sweet tune of 26 to 0. The Turkey Day game was the big game as Malden Catholic came looking for trouble and found it. It looked as though Malden might take this game as they did in previous years, but it didn’t turn out that way. Rindge had a much better team and as a result romped all over the Blue and Gold 34 to 0. All of the Rindge wins were via the shutout route and all were at Russell Field, our home ground. We haven’t been defeated at home for the last two years. HOFFMAN’S BAKERY Corner Hampshire St. and Plymouth St., Cambridge, Mass.
