EX-LIBRIS two SENIOR CLASS Yearbook 1951 vindge echnical School CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS four Dedication The Class of 1951 feels — and rightly so — that this, our Class Yearbook, should be dedicated to a man, who guided our destinies for three-fourths of our high school life. Although Mr. John W. Wood is now Headmaster Emeritus of Rindge, to the Class of 1951 he will be recalled as a kindly, understanding gentleman and scholar. To you, Mr. Wood, the Class of 1951 hopes you enjoy many years of a richly deserved retirement. You have left indelibly on Rindge the fruits of your labor. Neither time nor future happenings can ever erase your name from the number one position on the illustrious Rindge Honor Roll. Prologue At last the long awaited day arrives, filling each of us with mixed emotions of happiness and sadness. We are happy because of our achievements and sad_ because we are leaving Rindge. Since we take a great deal of pride in our school, we would like to have you meet us within its walls and follow us backwards through our four years in Rindge, then forward to our hopes for the future. We, as Rindge Seniors, sincerely hope the follow- ing pages will do this. five wit | pM y 2. Projection Class fifty-five Class Will We, the Class of 1951 of the Rindge Technical School of Cambridge, Massachusetts, being Seniors of unsound mind, but healthy of body, and believing that death will catch up with us sooner or later, do publish this — our last will and testament. To the Juniors — we leave the Key to Seniordom. To the serious Sophomores — we leave the important job ef being Juniors. To the microscopic Freshmen — we can leave no responsibilities except that of growing a little taller in order to reach their lockers. To all future Rindge students — we leave the best of wishes in their four year struggle for the cap-’n’-gowns’’. And now our favorite teachers: To Mr. Eugene Fitzgerald — we leave the headaches of the English Department. To Mr. Leon Fitzgerald — we leave many bright ties. To Mr. Powers — we leave the title of “‘Best Dressed Man of ’51”’. To Mr. Diehl — we leave the nickname — “Muscle Man”. To all them there English teachers — we “tank” them for all they “Jlernt” us. To Mr. Linehan — we leave a toupee that, we feel, he will welcome, especially in winter. To Mr. Lynch — we leave a personal bank with a burglar-proof lock. To Mr. Harrington — we leave a pair of extra long stilts so he can see over his desk in the future. To Mr. Fogg — we leave a pretty blond secretary to aid him in the library. Also to him — we leave a new bicycle to convey him back and forth to work. To Mr. Galligan — we leave a new contract and a championship football team. To Mr. Cohen — we leave a dozen bow ties, a pillow for his chair, and unbreakable laboratory equipment. To Mr. William Kelleher — we leave his favorite period — the eighth. To all teachers in the Rindge Technical School — we just leave. They will be glad of that! ! ! Having disposed of our worldly possessions, we hope our class will go down in history as the greatest of all the great Rindge classes,— we, the Senior Class of 1951, do hereby subscribe our names on this day of June, 1951, A.D.; P.H.D.; Ete. There was no doubt about it, Rindge Tech was once again a good football machine. Maybe not in class A, but — give them time and you'll see. Of course, the Somerville game will be remembered by all that saw it. But let me refresh- your memory of that great day. Remember Thanksgiving morning how you and 7,500 fans, repre- senting both schools, filed into Tufts Oval to witness the 57th renewal of the traditional Rindge- Somerville Turkey Day Classic. Remember the second quarter — when Somerville, after driving up the field for 66 yards scored to lead 6 to 0. Then how your hopes were gone with just three minutes left in the gar Then like a bomb Larry Plenty, a Sophomore, ran back a punt from our 40 for a 60-yard t, down to tie the score at 6 all. Then after the kickoff, Somerville ran up against a stone wall on its own 40 and } our 45. ‘Tom Magnarelli returned the ball 15 yards, and Tom Cusick carried for five Rindge shifted from second to high gear as Bob Murphy threw a flat pass to Cusick. Somerville’s 2 before being tackled. With 30 seconds remaining, first down plays later, Magnarelli crashed through the line for the victory. The main reason why I recapt the game was because this game te the Rindge-Somerville series. Among the outstanding seniors on this year’s squad were — J. Wilson, W. Boudreau, T. Cusick, D. Track wes “Toe your mark, now set, ‘Bang’!” These are familiar words and a familiar sound to the Team of °50—51. is was a group of hard-working, earnest and conscientious fellows striving to win for their oach, Mr. Duffy. e Rindge’s record of two wins and three losses in Division I of the Metropolitan Track eam ranked among the best. Had Dame Fortune smiled its way, they might have ship. Mahoney, Coach. Hockey The 1950-51 season began with a distinct sense of optimism. While the team was not “deep’ in reserves, it was thought that — barring injuries or other unforeseen circumstances — the team might do well. After a brilliant start, Stoneham and Newton were soundly trounced — the roof fell in. Despite brilliant play by the senior members of the squad — the team, as a whole, could net overcome the obstacles of injuries, illness and ineligibility. After the second game, we were never able to ice a team that was at full strength. Senior members performing exceptionally well were — James Duffy (all scholastic for four years), Tom Cusick (captain and all scholastic for two years), Larry Loughlin, Gerald Casey, and Charles Linehan. ° sixty-seven BASKETBALL TEAM Back row left to right; W. Basketball Our Brownies finished an exciting schedule in fifth place, but deserved a better fate. Newton High in their gym beat us — 55 to 42; but in the season’s opener, we lost a last-minute game to them by the score of — 37 to 35. The two C.H.L.S. games ended in our favor by the scores of — 51 to 46 and 51 to 49. This gave us the City of Cambridge Championship. For the first time in a Rindge and Latin game, 100 points was scored. Rindge then beat the Arlington five by a 55 to 53 margin, but lost the out-of-town game by a score of 53 to 52. Rindge then rallied to beat Waltham — 40 to 35; but once again lost the out- of-town game — 48 to 44. Watertown, the runner-up in the league, also took a close one from us by the score — 38 to 36 — in the last second of play. So, taking all in all, with a few less injuries and a little more luck, we might easily have finished a place or so higher in the final standing. Watertown and Newton finished in a first place tie in the Suburban League, and Newton won the playoff game. Rindge’s record for the season was — 4 wins and 8 losses. The team itself is losing the service of four star players. They are — center, J. Nestor; forward, Capt. F. Juiliano; guards, J. Elios and W. Boudreau. sixty-eight his Mr. GIBSON — Baseball Baseball The baseball team has high hopes either of — improving its final league standing of last year, or coming up with the Suburban League pennant, this year. Nine members of the Senior Class are shouldering the responsibilities of this year’s team. Five of the seniors are pitchers which should put a lot of determination into the pitching staff. They are — L. Dennison, W. Boudreau, A. Colozzi, G. Buckanan, and J. Saraiva. Tom Cusick, a veteran of last year’s team, will be out there in left field; while mate, Charlie Baker, will be available infielder. There are co-captains on this year’s team. They are first baseman, D. Annecchiarico; and right fielder, F. Steinkrauss. Both boys have the pep and fight to supply the spark that every team needs. We of the senior class wish our new coach of baseball, Mr. “Larry” Gibson, all the luck and success in the world. sixty-nine seventy seventy-one seventy-two Out to Win! . Beso!
