Mellon” “Red” came to Rindge from the Houghton School and began making a name for himself at once. He was a member of the Cross Country team in his second year but was unable to earn a letter, a member of the Travel Club and the Law Club. He has been a willing helper behind the scenes in several Rindge plays, acting as assistant stage manager for two productions and as stage | manager in the two main productions this year, “Pals First’ and “The Test.” Hugh performed the duties of Senior Class Treasurer. He intends to seek employment when he leaves school, HERBERT R. HEARSEY 125 Austin Street. 18 years “Herb” came to Rindge from the Harvard School. While here, he was a member of the Science Club, the Thirteen Club, the Harvard Club, the Travel Club, and the Rindge Hi-Y. He has not only been active in the clubs, but he has been a fine student, his name being on the Honor Roll more than off. He likewise has been active in class affairs since his Sophomore year. He served on the Senior Reception and the Ring Committee in his Junior year, and on the Year Book Committee in his Senior year. He was Major Sport Editor on the Register Staff this year. “Herb” is coming back to Rindge next year for a P. G. course, and then he plans to enter either Harvard or Tufts. “Herb” is the sort of a fellow that will make a success in the world because he knows how to work and how to study; besides he has a fine sense of humor. peuuy, voomCce sa BAWAns OY ahenes wirreny vo CLYDE VINCENT HODGDON 62 Amory Street. 18 years Clyde came to Rindge from the Harvard School. He was a member of the Glee Club in '25, ’26, '27; the Dramatic and Parliamentary Law Club in ‘28; the Thirteen Club, '29; and the Harvard Club. He was an elected member to the Student Council in ’28, and on the revision staff of the Rindge Brownie in ’28. He was also a member of the Torch Club in ’25 and ’26, and the Hi-Y in ’27 and ’28. Clyde has been most active in Dramatics while here at Rindge. He took the part of the soldier in the Christmus play of '27; the chauffeur in the Senior Drama, “The Hit of ’27; one of the leads in the Senior Drama, “Half-back ; Sandy” of ’28; the part of “Danny Rowland” in this year’s Senior Drama, “Pals First;” and the part of Mr. Wood in the Glee Club’s musical show, “The Test.” Besides being active in school dramatics, Clyde has been connected with the “University Players” for the Jast year and a half. Clyde is uncertain about going to college and may return to Rindge as a Post Graduate, but he is sure that he is going to follow dramatics. H. S. MONKIEWICZ 116 Chilton Street. 18 years Henry came to Rindge from the Roberts. We find that he was rather active in clubs. In his Freshman, Sophmore and Junior years Henry belonged to the Checker Club and in his Senior year he belonged to the Law and Travel Clubs. Henry won't go to college and won't be. back here next year. He is undecided about his plans for the fu- ture. ARTHUR W. BOTELHO 337 Windsor Street. 17 years “Bottles” is a graduate of the Well- ington School. He served on the Traffic Squad, '27. “Bottles” wants to become a druggist and is going to at tend Mass: College of Pharmacy. SAMUEL L. He intends to go to. work as a printer. 16 years HARRY WILLIAM GALLAGHER 278 Broadway. 16 years - “Gal,” who came from the Fletcher School, was a member of the Travel and Law Clubs during his Junior and Senior years. He was also a member of our fam- ous Rindge Color Guard. “Gal” fs | not coming back next year and he is undecided about his future. ALBERT Di MELO 43 Fourth Street. 19 years “Al” entered Rindge four years ago from the Putnam School. During his first year at school he joined the Science Club and enlisted in the candidate rank of the Track team. In his second year his ability as an artist was dis- covered and he was given a position on the Register staff as one of the staff artists. He continued to run on the Track team and became a member of the Glee Club during this year. During his last two years he was a member of the following: Glee Club, 28, °29; Travel Club, '28; Traffic Squad, '28; Register Staff: staff artist, ’28, art editor, '29; Dramatic Club: Vagabonds cast, ’28, Pals, first cast, '29; and the R. A. A., '29. He intends to study architecture at the Massachusetts Art School. JOHN F. McCABE 247 Hampshire Street. 19 years “Mac” came from the St. Mary's School. During his second, third and fourth years he was Mr. Whoriskey’s celebrated soloist for the Glee Club. He was president of the Law Club and ulso a member of the Travel Club during his fourth year. “Mac” was a sprinter on the Track team during his first and second years. He was on two committees, the Junior Prom and the Senior Drama. He was treasurer of the Class of '28. He was also a member of the Traf- fic squad He played principal parts in ‘Half-back Sandy,” “Pals First,” “Double Crossed,” “The Vagabonds” and “The Test,” “Mac” was minor sports editor of the Register during his third term. is taking a P. G. course next year. He JAMES R. KEOUGH, JR. 259 Mt. Auburn Street. 19 years. “Little Dick,” the smallest big mun in the class, graduated from the St, Peter’s School. He was very active both in the affairs of the various clubs and in athletics. “Little Dick” was a member in the following organizations: Radio Club, ’27; Law Club, '29; Glee Club, 29 and the Travel Club, ’28, ’29 “Dick” was a member of the Rindge Athletic Association for two years; he was the vice president of that organization in '28 and the president in ‘29. “Little Dick” was a star athlete in school, He played center on the Football team for two years, '28 and ’29. In ’28 he was awarded the Rindge Alumni Football Cup for the player that tried the hardest to make good. In swimming, “Dick” was also a star. He was a member of the Swimming Team during the '26, '27 and ’28 seasons. It may be mentioned that “Dick” was a member of the Baseball squad during his Freshman year at school. In dramatics, “Dick” was Rindge’s black-face star. He tovok parts as a colored mammy in “Half-back Sandy,” ’28, and in “Pals First,” '29. He awas the hit of the musical show “The Test,” '29 as “Sue.” the school teacher. “Little Dick” may go to college. ROLLAND FRANCIS McSORLEY 17 years “Mac” graduated School, He was a prominent mem- ber of the Law, ’28, '29, and Travel, 28, '29 Clubs. “Mac” was the Sec- retary of the Travel Club during ‘29. Basketball was his favorite sport. He was the forward on the '29 team. “Mac” also did commendable work on the Senior Drama Committee, °29 and was timekeeper at many of our school debates. In his Senior year, he was on the Football, Dance and Senior Drama Committees. Arnold ran for Vice President of the Senior Class on the Progressive ticket and He plans to £0 to work. “Arn” was elected. MALCOLM F. CRAMTON 335 Broadway. 19 years “Mal” is a graduate of the Sacred Tleart Parochial School. While at Rindge, “Mal” belonged to the Travel Club, 729 and the Law. Club, '29. “Mal” plans to seek a position in architectural drafting LAWRENCE N. CALLAHAN 13 Vernum Street. 19 years “Cal” is a graduate of the Agassiz School. During his four years at Rindge, “Cal” has been an ardent club member and is listed as a mem- ber in the following: Science, Check- er and Glee Clubs, the Travel Club, ‘27, ‘28, ‘29; and the Law Club, °29. Ile was also a member of the Traffic Squad during ‘29. “Cal” plans to en- ter Center College next year. MR. JOHN W. WOOD, MR. FRANCIS T. McCABE, HEADMASTER MASTER ANDREW J. LIVINGSTON 22 Camp Street. 18 years “Andy” is a graduate of the Ellis School. His only activity was the Science Club, of which he was a mem- ber during his first year. His plans for the fulure are undecided. JOH'N GURNEY CALLEN, JR. 72 Sparks Street. 18 years “Jink” came to Rindge from the Peabody School. He belonged to the Swimming team at C. H. L. S., spec- jalizing in the 20 and 40 vard dashes. We will hear more from “Jink” next year as he will return for a P. G. course. JAMES FRANCIS MADDEN 158 Fayerweather Street. 17 years came from the Ellis School. He was a member of the Travel Club during ’27, ’28, °29, and of the Law Club during '29. While in his Freshman year he attained the position of captain of the Color Guard. He is undecided as to wheth- er or not he will continue his educa- tion. “Jimmie” THE RINDGE REGISTER O. WILLIAM WHITE, JR. 19 Amory Street. 18 years Four years ago “Bill” White came to Rindge from the Harvard School. In those four years “Bill,” a fine example of a fellow with a real Rindge spirit, obtained for himself, by his work around the school, the reputation of being one of the most popular fellows in Rindge. During his first year at school “Bill” was selected as one of the outstanding boys in the class to represent the Freshmen in the Torch Club. When the call for football candidates came, “Bill went out for the team and was successful in winning his letter as a suard on the eleven. He joined the Science Club and represented the Fresh men in the public speaking contest during this year. In his second year his classmates elected him as their President. He was again chosen as a representative of the Torch Club. His presidential duties kept him very busy throughout the year and as a result, he had to limit his outside activities to public speaking and writing for the Register. During the third year “Bill” was kept busy by the club work and dra- matics. He was picked to represent the Juniors in the Hi-Y Club; was made a member of the Student Council; joined the Travel Club, and was given the privilege to join the “Morning Watch.” “Bill” was made chairman of the operetta, '28, “Vagabonds,” Committee, and of the Ring Committee He also acted on the Junior Prom Committee. “Rill” made his debut as an actor at Rindge during this year when he took the part of MacReady, Shakespearian scholar, in “Half-back Sandy,” the ‘28 Senior Drama. He next played the part of a priest in the annual Christ- mas play. “Bill” was elected to the position of Assistant Kditor of the Regis ter and was named to act on the Rindge Brownie Staff. It was “Bill's” job to revise and modernize the “Brownie.” Debating and public speaking wound up his as a Junior at Rindge. As a Senior “Bill” was named as the candidate for class president by the Progres sive Party. Relieved of a class president’s worry py tne etecuon, “Bill” did not remain idle but delved immediately into other branches of class work. He was made Editor-in-Chief of the Register and, while serving in this capacity, was requested by the members of the class to act as Editor-in-Chief ou the Class Book Committee. Still more work was given to “Bill” when he was elected president of the Hi-Y, This did not, however, prevent “Bill” from joining the Law and Travel Clubs nor did it prevent him from engaging in the activities of Harvard Club and of the Thirteen Club. “Bill's” achievements as a student here at Rindge came to a close with the publishing of this number of the Register. He will continue his educa- tion as a student at the Boston University School of Business Administration. career ASS OFFICERS THE 1929 SENIOR CL PAGE NINE ARTHUR L. THAYER 53a Orchard Street. 18 years “Al,” as Arthur is called by his in- timates, graduated from the Ellis School. He was a member of the '26 Freshman Track Team and a mem- ber of the Law and Travel Clubs dur- ing ‘29. “Al” was placed upon the Senior Dues Committee and was one of the few that actually tried to col- lect dues from the Seniors. He will enter Boston University next year. JOHN M. FERNANDES 64 Plymouth Street. 15 years John came to Rindge from the St. Mary's School in ’27 and has the honor to be the only one in the class to finish his prescribed course of study in three years. He plans to go to work. RICHARD B. HANSON 91 Trowbridge Street. 17 years “Dick” came from the Washington School in Allston. He was a member of the Science Club during his first year, and the Radio, Rindge Hi-Y and Travel Clubs during his third and fourth years. He is coming back next year for a P. G. course. Later he is going to Northeastern for electrical engineer- ing, OSCAR WILLIAM WHITE EDITOR OF THE RINDGE REGISTER CHARLES S. HALNEY 37 Crescent Street. 18 years Charles is a graduate of the Agas- siz School. The Traffic squad is the only activity that has claimed his at- tention. He is going to work for the General Electric Company, and he in- tends to enroll at the Lowell Institute next year. He belonged to the Ski Club, 25, '26, ’27, the Travel Club, 27, '28 and was assistant manager of the Cross Country, ’27. “Balmy” intends to come back as a P. G. ,then go to Mass. Institute of Technology, and finally to attend the Ryan Flying School.
