Social tudiea The social studies classes taught the students about themselves and others in the human race. Humanities taught students about foreign cultures and walks of life. Human behaviors was a very interesting class, the students felt, because they learned and became familiar with LIFE in all aspects. It took the student through genetics and death and all the in between. Mike Patterson Bill Dickson Steve Shelton — Dept. Chair One has to write and speak well if they want to be successful in any career. This department was the nucleus to all the other areas of study. A student would achieve more and understand other sub- jects better if he could read the textbook well and express himself on paper. The English teachers helped students in every way they could to accomplish this. The reading and writing center was greatly im- proved. Plato once said, Do not train youth to learning by force and harshness, but lead them to it by what amuses their minds so that you may discover the peculiar bent of the genius of each. It was the aim of the Social Studies Department to provide for the uniqueness of all students and to enable them to become one with the Western humanistic tradition.
