ead the NewsT Night by Night Prank — (prank) noun: a ludicrous or mildly mischievous act. Hats off to the seniors who properly defin- ed the meaning of prank. The exasperated administration never knew what to expect from the spirited Senior class. September began the planning of various methods of livening up the school and by October, our little surprises began to show up. The goal posts magically changed colors one night and Santa delivered a Christmas tree just before Christmas break. Our school speed limit in the parking lot was changed to 55 M.P.H. and who can forget the night it rained fried eggs? Senior square was attacked one day by hooded gangsters who thought the underclassmen might enjoy some ReddiWhip for lunch. Super Chicken (remember the cartoon) and his band of merry men made a guest appearance in the halls of Rim. How did we know it was Super Chicken? Why they were all wearing capes that said ' 83! Our pranks were many, and were done in fun. This was our farewell to Rim and to our childhood; tomorrow I suppose we ' ll grow up. SQ.P K Y SR. READY WHfP oday. Standin ' on a Mountain Top On July 11, 1983 our World Cultures ' teacher, Marty Nicholas will be leaving for the Pamir Mountains, located in South Central Russia. The Pamirs are between Hindukush and the Himalayas. The objec- tive is to climb Peak Communism at 24,590 feet high, which is the highest peak in the Pamirs and in Russia. The expedi- tion will be 5 weeks long, 4 of which will be spent conditioning and climbing. The climb itself will take between 8 and 4 days. Before returning to the States, Mr. Nicholas will tour Central Asia, Bokhara, Tashkent and Samarkand; places very few westerners ever get a chance to visit. We wish Mr. Nicholas the best of luck. Long Distance Voyagers December 1 1-20, four Rim runners went to Taiwan as members of a team of American athletes to run in the Republic of China Na- tional 8.5 kilometer championships. They were Tim Hubbs, Greg DeCarlo, Beckie Boone, and Lindsay Collins. They were selected from their entries in the Mount San Antonio College cross-country invita- tional. The team was made up of forty five runners from high schools throughout Southern California. The Rim students rais- ed part of the expense of the trip from community clubs and organizations. The group spent the first four days of their trip in Honolulu, Hawaii where they watch- ed the Honolulu Marathon and enjoyed the sun and surf. The remainder of their trip was spent in Taiwan. They visited Taipei (the capital) and the city of Kaohsuing. The competition took place in Kaohsuing. There were 1500 runners in the race which was a little over five miles. The Rim run- ners finished well and many of their team- mates received trophies. All four agreed that the trip was a fabulous experience and were grateful to be a part of it. 348 Editor ' s Report

Very Special Each year seems to claim a few of our favorite people, famous or friends, and though the loss of someone is simply : nature making room for the new members of our world and the high school graduates are looking for a position to hold, death is a difficult subject to understand or accept. Our senior class was fortunate to have all its members in good health for our final ceremony, but there are a few people we ' ll remember as very special though we never knew them personally. Among these are actor, Henry Fonda; Princess Grace; and singer, Karen Carpenter. All contributed happiness to a lot of people and their presence will be missed. So Long After eleven years of entertaining us, M.A.S.H said farewell. Each episode was written and acted with humor, yet had a iserious message to pass on. The cast was so likeable, we felt as if we knew them: B.J., Hawkeye, Hot Lips, Col. Potter, Kl- inger, Charles, Father Mulcahy; and from the early cast: Radar, Henry, Trapper Nurse Baker, and Frank. They all had such [distinctive and realistic personalities. I Thank you M.A.S.H. for allowing us to jgrow up with your subtle teachings and lessons, your comedy and cast. Monday nights will never be as fun without the 4077. In Answer to Prayers . . . Last year Edward Karady, then a freshman, was involved in a near fatal acci- dent in a fourby-four which left him unable to walk or talk. His family was told he would never regain these abilities but with the prayers and thoughts of many students, families, and community members, Edward is now walking with aid and talking. Keep it up Edward, you ' re in our thoughts. My Generation Recognize these places? How long will they remain our hangouts? How long before we go our separate ways? Nancy ' s Attitude Adjustment Center provid- ed us with a weekend retreat where we could kick back and forget everything. Thanks Nancy! Del Taco was our refueling station after our wins and losses at every sporting event. It was the first place we thought of when we were attacked by the munchies. Hey, don ' t forget I ' ll meet ya at Nancy ' s next year when everyone ' s home for Christmas. SICK 1 cannot go to school today, said little Peggy Ann McKay. I have the measles and the mumps, A gash, a rash, and purple bumps. My mouth is wet, my throat is dry, I ' m going blind in my right eye. My tonsils are as big as rocks, I ' ve counted sixteen chicken pox And there ' s one more that ' s seventeen. And don ' t you think my face looks green My leg is cut, my eyes are blue — It might be instamatic flu. I cough and sneeze and gasp and choke, I ' m sure that my left leg is broke — My hips hurts when I move my chin, My belly button ' s caving in, My back is wrenched, my ankle ' s sprained. My ' pendix pains each time it rains. My nose is cold, my toes are numb, I have a sliver in my thumb. My neck is stiff, my spine is weak, I hardly whisper when I speak. My tonge is filling up my month, I think my hair is falling out. My elbow ' s bent, my spine ain ' t straight, My temperature is one-o-eight. My brain is shrunk, I cannot hear. There is a hole inside my ear. I have a hangnail, and my heart is — what? What ' s that? What ' s that you say? You said today is . . . Saturday? G ' bye, I ' m going out to play! — Shel Silverstein This poem, taken from Shel Silverstein ' s book Where the Sidewalk Ends, is dedicated to all of those students who have experienced an attack of Spring Fever, with special application to my fellow classmates whose illness is compounded by acute Senioritis. — Kathleen Shaw Editor ' s Report — 2 9
