==zJazz oncert With saxes and trumpets, keyboard and guitar, trombones and percussion the 1982-83 Jazz ensemble proved themselves to be an exciting and lively group, giving a new meaning of jazz at Rim. The young musicians were under the direction of Mr. James Gibford. Mr. Gibford ' s knowledge and enthusiasm in jazz had thegroup sounding better than ever. The group worked hard raising funds to attend a three day festival at Magic Mountain, May 4, 5, and 6, where they did very well and represented Rim in an exceptional way. Performing for the community in various concerts made up a major part of the year, giving the ensemble a chance to entertain the home crowd. The group brought back the tradition of sponsoring a jazz group for the listening pleasure of the community as well as the students. WinaE nsemble. The Concert Band with director Mr. Brian Fox had a very successful year. The an- nual Christmas Concert held on December 15 was the highlight of the Holiday season. The group participated in festivals, while individuals prepared for solo and ensemble festivals, as well as auditions for ail-state, all-southern and all-county honor bands. Most efforts focused on working together with officers Chris Miranda President, Paul Martinez Vice President, Diane Jagt Secretary and Michelle Bacon Treasurer to plan and raise funds for the spring tour. Funds were raised by a raffle, gift wrapp- ing during Christmas, a bowl-a thon and a booth at the Winter Fest. 20,000 dollars was needed to take the group on their tour of northern California with stops in Santa Barbara, Solvang, and San Francisco. The 1983 Wind Ensemble composed or the top 30 instrumentalists came together se- cond semester as the talent the group possessed was incredible. They advanced musically in both sound and technique. Hard work, practice, and dedication paid off as awards were received through par- ticipation in festivals. Each member of the Wind Ensemble was personally satisfied with the success of the year.
