B ands of the 80 As we entered into the year of 1983 we began to hear many new bands playing a wide variety of new music. Bands from Duran Duran to Men at Worl slowly push- ed the Heavy Metal bands off the pop charts. This year when we turned on the radio we were more likely to hear the Straycats than R.E.O. Speedwagon. Every month new bands are coming out of England playing music with sounds and rhythm that we have never heard before. Much different sounding music today can be attributed to the mixing of Reggae Funk and Latin Rhythms with every day rock and roll. Bands and musicians that have been in the music industry for years are just now starting to come out with a new sound. The music of 83 is both different and interesting and most of us have decid- ed that we like the new sound that is being produced. The Clash Rock the Casbah as they become more popular in the U.S. Joe Jackson steppin ' out with his new hit record Might and Day. 154 — Bands of the 80 ' s
