' CARRY THAT WEIGHS A note to a friend . . . In keeping with the theme of popular song, I found myself searching for an appropriate song which would somehow sum up what this man. Chuck Tipton, was all about. The task grew more difficult day by day. After all, this was a Most Peculiar Man. Numerous song titles would fly through my head, all fitting his amazing history; however, the significance of each was hinged upon a knowledge and understanding of all that Chuck Tipton had seen. You see, though many may know of the battles Chuck has faced, very few have had the privilege to know him. Knowing this, I feel most fortunate to have become his friend. On the school grounds, Chuck has taught In the social studies department as well as sei ing as a counselor. He has been at Rim for a few lifetimes. He has seen students, teacher ; and administrations come and go. Yet, this f)art of Chuck ' s life, though important in tl professional sense, could not begin to compare with his life on the home front. Without Rhyme or Reason Chuck was faced with tragedy. A devoted family man, thei was never a question of where his priorities should be. This man has heard more ar- rangements of a song than most of us could ever imagine. He has taught many of us how to Carry that Weight a long time. F ' or this I thank you Chuck Tipton, — Steve Shelton, Advisor I fish because I love to, because I love the environs where trout are found, which are in variably beautiful, and hate the environs where crowds of people are found, which are in variably ugly, because of all the television commercials, cocktail parties, and assorted social posturing I thus escap e; because in a world where most men seem to spend their lives doing things they hate, my fishing is at once an endless source of delight and an act of small rebellion, because trout do not lie or cheat and cannot be bought or bribed or im- pressed by power, but respond only to quietude and h umanity and endless patience; because I suspect that men are going along this way for the last time, and I for one do not want to waste the trip, because mercifully there are not telephones on trout waters; because only in the woods can I find solitude without loneliness; because bourbon out of an old tin cup always tastes better out there; because maybe one day 1 will catch a mer- maid; and, finally, not because I regard fishing as being so terribly important but becauseT suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant and not neaF» ly so much fun. h — j.. fc. His three married children have all attended Rim High and have started their own families. Thank you Mr. Tipton for sticking it out and teaching so many of us through the years.
