My name is Ann-Kristin Gjelsten. I am from Norway. I wanted to get away from regular life and do something challenging. I came on the YFG program and really like it. I think it is a good way to get to meet peo- ple, experience their culture and learn a lot. I thought that when I was coming to California, it would be like summer for a whole year. I was wrong, but the moun- tains are pretty and I ' m glad I am here. It is difficult to tell what I like best about the U.S. One thing I like especially is Mex- ican food. When I get back home 1 will go to a business school which is hard because of all the theoretical lessons. I am glad that Rim has all these nice classes that I can ' t take at home. I ' m try- ing to take all the fun classes because when I get home I have two years of hard studying left. I am staying with the Kirkman ' s. They are very nice people. I love them a lot. 1 will never forget this year and am grateful for it. Ha det bra og takk for heg. My name is Yasuko Okamoto. I am from the country of Japan. I really like the AFS program and learning of other people and their cultures. America ' s customs are very different from the custom ' s of Japan. I like Japanese customs, but I also like American custom ' s and find them very interesting. I find America is very very big. I really like Rim High School. I think Rim High School is very nice. The teachers, and students, and staff are very much kind. I am living here in America with the family. I like them very much. In school I am involved in the AFS Club. I am also involved in Rainbow Girls. I have made many friends, like, Pagie, Christy, Alice, Denise, Suzy, Michell, Kale, Chris, Diane, Tony Barbara and all the AFS members. FAVORITE SONG: Thebasa o ku da sa i. My name is Kayoko Maedo. I am from the country of Japan. I am living with the Rutherfurd family. I like them very much. They have taken me to many different places that are very interesting. I like many things about America. I think it is very big and very nice. 1 also like the school here in America. It is very nice. I like many things about Rim High school. I like the teachers. I like the library, the students and so on. it is a very nice school. The activity I am involved in is the AFS club. I like it very much. I have made many friends in the AFS Club. Some of my very nice friends are Kelly Timpone, Brita, Yasuko, Kyle, David, Ann, Rick, Pat, Robin and all the other people in the AFS CLCJB and the AFS Program. S oreiener This program gives students all around the globe the opportunity to live in a foreign country. This experience can show students how other students live and learn. The foreign exchange students at Rim have seemed to get along well and make many new friends. Mow is a sad time for these friends because the foreign ex- change have all learned and shared with each other an unforgettable experience. My name is Jannie Jerup. 1 come from a town called Hals in the northern part of Denmark. 1 live there with my mom and dad and my little sister. Before 1 came to the United States, 1 went to another high school and graduated from the tenth grade. In Denmark you only need to go to school for ten years. Here in school you have the same classes every day at ten minutes to eight. In Denmark we have dif- ferent classes every day and we meet at different times depending on when our classes start. The school isn ' t as strict in Denmark as it is here. Here in the U.S. I live with the Heeres ' fami- ly in Sky Forest. They are very nice and have done a lot for me. 1 also have many friends and enjoy going to football games and dances. My favorite American song is Another Brick in the Wall by Pink Floyd. My name is Brita Lindquist and 1 am from Sweden. 1 came on the foreign exchange program to get away from my usual life and tough schooling and to be able to have the fine experience of learning of a new culture. 1 am living with the Exline ' s and am really glad I have such a nice family to live with. 1 really like America because of the many possibilities of things you can do. »ln Southern California you can go to the beach, the mountains and the desert on the same day. 1 like going to Rim High School. 1 especially like being able to choose the classes that 1 want and am in- terested in. I also enjoy being in a small school because you have better relation- ships with the teachers. Some of my interests are skiing, schooling, sailing, volleyball and going out sailing with my windsurfer. At Rim High School 1 am taking stats for the girls ' basketball team. A.F.S. Students. My name is Catherine Garcon. I am 18 years old and am from France. I live with the Hert family. 1 am very lucky to have found such a nice family. I ' ve had a good time with my sisters Dorothy and Liz. They are very good volleyball players. This was a very good experience for me this year. The students and the teachers are very nice. I have more relationships between friends and teachers than in France. In France we work too much in school. We have more homework there. 1 love the weather here it changes all the time, and the mountains are beautiful. 1 have one brother and two sisters, Didier (23), Nicole (21), and Veronique (20). My Dad owns a Renault car company in Lyon. FAVORITE SONG: Starship Jane by Jefferson I ' m Sak Promlek. I am from Lurin, Thailand. 1 have two sisters and three brothers. I really like the AFS program and think that it is a great way to send students into other countries to learn and unders- tand other people. 1 enjoy being here in America and like to see everyone enjoying being free, and so friendly. American ' s customs are very dif- ferent from my countries customs. I am staying with the Russell family in Lake Arrowhead. 1 love my family very much. They are so kind to me. 1 like this school very much even though it is so very different than my school at home. Here I am very free in school. 1 can wear the clothes that I want and study as much as 1 want without being forced by the teachers. My hobbies are reading, sports and music. 1 love the friends 1 have made here. They are very friendly to me. FAVORITE SONG: Sealed With a Kiss. My name is Koen DeBoever, and 1 am frorr Belgium. 1 am living with the Bemis famil) and like them very much. Having lived ir the cold but beautiful mountains, I ' ve beer able to see a part of California I never kncM existed. Apart from the mountains Califor nia has some other beautiful places, like San Diego, Palm Springs and Anaheim, couldn ' t have had a better place to stay. 1 love California and its people. 1 really like Rim High School. It has some excellen teachers and a large amount of post-schoo activities. It also has been a lucky experience to be ir a school for both boys and girls. 1 have hac the chance to be on the cross countri team and then 1 played soccer. 1 was alsc involved in the school play Airplane anc am also in the AFS club. 1 have made lot! of good friends and love them all.
