CLASS HISTORY Oft rn the stzlly nzght Ere slumber s chazn has bound me Fond memory brings the lzght Of other days around me EPTEMBER 1946-We remember the day when our class first met within the hallowed walls of Ridley Park High School Our group radiated from many neighboring boroughs and the focal pomt was Ridley Park On that first day our feelings and lmpresslons were all mixed We felt strange It was like bemg lost ln the forest primeval the murmuring pines and the hem locks bearded Wlth moss we really were mlXCd up weren t we? But after a short tlme things became unscrambled and we got down to business Mr Bell became our first adviser and under his kindly guidance we applied ourselves to the work of selling magazines We elected capable officers to carry us through our freshman year Tom Zlegenfuss was Eileen Smith secretary Carole Bailey trea surer This was the year of trial and aspira t1on Many of us tried out and made good ln athletics muslc and other activlties We fin lshed the year by electing class officers for the following year When vacation time finally arrived we felt that we really needed lt after all those months of work Work' uork' uork' Tzll the brazn begzns to slum Work uork uork T111 the eyes are heavy and dzm The following September we returned w1th a different feeling We knew it was time to drop that new look because we were no longer callow unmltlated freshmen We were Sophomores Mlss Blttmd became our class adviser The class oflicers we had elected were Allen Messey president Richard Fm ley vice president Nancy Balerlem secre tary Carole Bailey treasurer Some of our classy athletes were able to make the varsity m our sophomore year We advanced in all activltles and many of our class became members of the various clubs Under Miss Bittmgs dlrectlon we sold Christmas cards and held a dance This dance one of the high lights of our sophomore year was an old clothes affair To create mterest and enthu slasm a group from our class dld a skit and sang a song in assembly Remember? The chorus ran somethmg like this At the sopho more dance wear your fathers pants Ill the sophomore dance The dance was '1 big success and everyone had a good time That year ended on a sweeter note and the nearness of vacation made us all feel happy Happy days are here agazn The skres above are clear agam Lets szng a song o cheer and then We ll all come back next year agam Now we had acquired the stately title of juniors We entered into our scholastic work athletics and all the varied activities with the determination to play our parts as junior partners ln operation Ridley We had elected Mr Shaffer to be our class adviser Allen Messey became class president Richard Finley vice president Marie COmlnSklC sec . . . , , . 7 , n . . .
