The eighth grade supplied a great many of the girls on the junior high hockey squad. Later in the year, basketf ball teams were organized for both boys and girls. During football and basketball season, the junior high cheerleaders, many being girls from the eighth grade, helped the boys along by cheering from the sidelines. The class has not only participated in sports but they have also contributed to the Clee Club. ln the future, our class wishes to continue its many extra' curricular activities. 64 SEVENTH GRADE The seventh grade entered the high school this year from Tome Street. To complicate matters, joan's father was the high school principal. Betty and Dickie, Bob's sister and brother, weren't much help, Betty was interested in her boy friends, and Dickie in his candyfgirl sweetheart, Gwen Anderson, who car- ried Dickie's books to school every day. Mr. and Mrs. Parker tried very hard to understand their rather disrupted home life. Louella, the Parkers' maid, helped to hold the household together. Bef fore long the P. T. A. took up Bob's case, at joan's plea, to prove that Bob was not really dangerous. Mrs. Brunswick, Mrs. james, and Mrs. Hill came to interview Bob, and from here on things went from bad to worse. Dickie had set boobyftraps for his sister Betty, but the P. T. A. ladies were there first. Bob was then accused of stealing ani- mals from the zoo, and was arrested by a plainf clothes man. joan's brother, Eddie Abernaker, helped Bob escape from jail. He was all ready to give up when Miss Bright, a woman from the zoo, explained the whole story. The animals Bob found were not rabbits, as he had thought, but chin' chillas. Bob was able to keep the ones that he had bred, and they provided him with a large amount of money. Mr. Abernaker forgave Bob and the play had the usual happy ending. fit .7 VE' arg 1 9, ,f W Cast of Characters Bob Parker Charles Shau joan Abernaker Mona Dames Mr Parker AUred Bonsall Mrs Parker V1r fmza Stoddard Betty Parker DlCkl6 Parker Eddie Abernikcr Mr Abernaker Gwen Anderson Louella Mrs Brunsmck Mrs james Mrs Hlll Plamclothes Man Mlss Bnght Prompters Alberta Farmer Rezne Schroeder Clarence Czlbert Donald Wheeler Phyllzs Doerm f Nancx Fenza Anne Cezse Lozs Rolnnson Wars Anderson Steme Pahzdes Lomse Moore Dan De Palma Phylhs Bell SENIOR PLAY A Date with Judy A Date with judy, the comical adventure adapted from famous radio scenes in the life of Judy Fosf ter, was presented by the senior class on December 3, I948 in the high school auditorium. Mrs. Rayf mond, the director, gave much of her time to this production. The plot centered around judy's ambition to col- lect the most money for Community Relief and thus be crowned queen of the Community Relief Dance. When Tootsie Whiteman, her closest rival, was S5500 ahead, july enlisted the help of her friends, Barbara and Mitzi, while her brother Randolph coached them from the sidelines. First they entered all their friends in contests, but only won merchandise. Her mother was sent twenty-four bottles of Clinto, the Hair Dye of Lively Ladies g her father received honorable men' tion for having Kissable Lips , and Hannah, the maid, won some shortening that made wonderful hair slick'm. Next, judy tried writing a true confession: how, ever, this was read by Mrs. Shlutzhammer at a P. T. A. meeting when she mistook it for Mrs. Fosters speech. judy had sunk to the very depths of despair, when she learned that Mr. Martindale, a Broadway producer, was coming for a visit. She and Mitzi decided to impress him with their Thespian ability, but just as they were in the midst of their act, Mrs. Hotchkiss breezed in with her daughter, Eloise, who began to elocute . Mr. Martindale's nerves were at the breaking point when Mrs. Shlutz- hammer burst in and accused Mrs. Foster of being a bigamistg Oogie, judy's boy friend, announced that he was going to the dance with Tootsie, Mrs. Foster fainted in the lap of Mr. Martindaleg and the second act ended in a surge of confusion. When judy refused to go to the dance, her par- ents, who were going to the Country Club, per- suaded her to ask Rex O'Conner, the new boy in town, to come over. When Rex arrived with his kid sister, Suzie, he announced that he was going to elope, so 'Iudy and Randolph went off with him after telling Oogie they were going to a wedding. Oogie thought .Iudy was being married and brought Mr. and Mrs. Foster home. Judy and Randolph came back and explained everything. Oogie then reported that Tootsie had come down with a bad case of the hives and 'Iudy was to become queen of the dance. She then went to the dance with Oogie and everyone was in a happy state of confusion. Cast of Character s ludx Fosur MKII!!! The second impression was less so. An underdog Lansdowne team rose to great heights deadlocking the heavier Parkers 7f7 on a clever handoff play' late in the last period. The following week Ridley met and defeated a subfpar Media aggregation I4-0. In our next game Chester outlasted us 6-0 thereby snapping an undefeated string which had reached seventeen games and was marred only by the tie with Lansdowne two weeks previous. With some of the pressure off but with the squad riddled by injuries the Parkers submerged a hapless Darby' eleven 216. The next game resulted in a hard- fought I9-I4 victory' over Springfield. Eddystone was the next opponent, and although Ridley' waged '91 ,SJR r' a bitter battle the Stoners appeared to pack just a few too many guns and prevailed 15 7 We then met Ridley Township and a game but outclassed Park eleven fell victim in a 47 2 rout while pos sibly the greatest team Delaware County has ever seen rolled on to an unblemished season Our final game was the annual Turkey Day battle with Pros pect Park and although Ridley spent much of the day knocking at Prospects goal line the de clsive punch was lacking and they edged us 7-0 Considering the diiiiculties the results of the season can be classed as satisfactory and while the fortunes of our team waned the interest of our fans did not Mr Percy V Kane Burgess of Ridley Park and our No l fan gave a very enjoyable buffet supper for the team at the Springhaven Country Club Most of the squad was presented with gold or silver footballs the money for which was furnished by a very generous group of the bor ough citizens. To these persons and to our coachf ing staff we wish to express our sincere appreciation for all they have done for us. Also we sincerely' hope that next year s team may once again leave an unbroken succession of nine straight football wrecks in the wake of the Red and White. Seniors who appeared for the last time in the raiment of old Ridley were Nick Perakis jim Moore jack Manerchia Bob Keyser Ed Keyser Al Waite Steve Pahides Bud Thompson Bob Williams Ray Sakers john Concklin Bob Sudol Carl Trautmann George Dotts Gordon Douglas Dick Moran Wayne Wagner Bob Behl Bill Deemer Francis Smith Bob Home jim McGowan Dean Courtright jim Calloway' and jim Mullen.
