BINING PRINCIPAL S MESSAGE The responslblllty whxch confronts youth today IS most challengmg To meet the responslblllty one must grow through a contmued study of the great problems of the world One should make one of hls alms that of gettlng more knowl edge but he should Wlth all hls getting get understandmg Upon graduatlon each generation of h1gh school youth finds ltself confronted wlth problems each more or less pecullar to ltself Very recently the matter of wmmng the war was paramount The youth of the natlon responded and largely through their sacrlflce energy sclentlfic ablllty and courage the war was won Now we are confronted wlth wmmng the peace Youth IS agam called mto actlon thrs tlme not to klll and destroy but to heal and reconstruct The tasks that he before youth at thls txme call for the hlghest type of under standlng not an understandmg of machmes and sclentlfic gadgets but of human bemgs A complete understandmg w1ll depend qulte largely upon attltude lt IS the SIHCEFC hope of all friends of the Class of 1948 that you may have gamed such knowledge during hlgh school days We recogmze however that knowledge though 1m portant cannot fit you completely to serve your generatlon The strength you have gamed from knowledge must be augmented by the understandmg and tolerance you have of and falth you have ln people Not only do we need to under stand those whose racial religious polltlcal and economic backgrounds are slmllar to our but we covet an understand mg that transcends differences 1n these VHFIOUS backgrounds j LAYTON Moomz I 0
