The academic life of our school has been given special attention in this yearbook-the picture of graduation shown below, the frontispiece, picturing one of our senior literature classes, and the impersonal zinc plate, illustrating discus- sion, on the last page are all evidences of the thoughts that we gave to this part of our school life. ln addition, through the use of pictures and the written word, we have, in the following pages, recorded the facts and the spirit of this school year as we saw them. One of the important facts is that our enrollment is in- creasing. This is evidenced by the picture of our freshman class. Another is that our curriculum has been added to and, among these additions, now includes a special college preparatory class in chemistry which goes beyond the usual high school course in this subject. A picture of part of this group at work appears after the CLASS divisional page. A third fact is that it is now generally recog- nized that each high school stu- dent should be given individual help in meeting his high school i'i ' and vocational problems. To sat- isfy this need, this year, for the first time, a counselor was ap- pointed and soon became an in- tegral part of our school life. That our school spirit is lively and good is attested to by our pictures of the dances, sports ac- tivities, assemblies, and Christ- mas decorations. The serious highlights are laced with amusing sidelights which appear at intervals throughout the book and on the full pages especially planned to show them. A yearbook is a durable thing that lasts many years. So, if in the years to ccme, our graduates leaf through the pages of this annual with a feeling of pride in their Alma Mater, then the ELKER Staff of T958 will have reason to feel that they have accomplished their purpose. 4
