— EAGLE Published by THE SENIOR CLASS of 1964 Ridgway High School Foreword Although the last days of our high school career are rapidly becoming part of the past, no future experience can blot out our memory of the days spent in the pursuit of knowledge at R.C.H.S. We present this, the 44th volume of the Eagle, as a memory book depicting each milestone as we made our way through these hal- lowed halls of learning. The reward of all those who have put forth an effort to pub- lish this book is that it will be a reminder of our happy school days and signify honest effort, school spirit, and love for our Al- ma Mater. k Staff . . . The Eagle and Old Eagle Eye We, the editors of the '64 Eagle, are proud to be able to present this annual. We feel that it will be fully successful if it will remind you of some of the pleasant times had this year at Ridgway High, and if it helps you to remember that the “Eagle was really on the move. Mary Ellen Edwards, Beverly Mills, Connie Steinbrook, Darlene Naas, Sharon Jones, Barbara Drone, Carol Keasler, Harold Pfifer, Larry Abell, Jim Suttner, Jerry Fromm, Mildred Roy - Sponsor. i 4 Dedication To you, our beloved history teacher, who came here a bit inexperienced (green) yourself in the fall of 1960 to undertake your responsibilities here at R.C.H.S.; To you, who came not just a teacher, but our friend; To you, who as our Freshman sponsor helped us go far, but whose guidance didn’t cease with the coming of our Sophomore, Junior, or Senior year; To you, Mr. Richard Hill, we, the Senior class of 1964, wish to dedicate our annual to you. CANDID CAMERA? mm ADMINISTRATION : Board Dr. James Kirby Glen Miner Don Rister ► MR. MAX DOWNEN Superintendent It is the purpose of our school to import to our students the meaning of democracy, to teach them to distinguish between right and wrong, and to give them opportunities to take part in such democratic processes as will better enable them to live in a democratic society. Mr. Downen Each pupil is a unique individual. His behavior is purposeful and represents his at- tempt to develop in society as he perceives it. The school in a democracy has as its basic purpose the education and development of all pupils for individual fulfillment. The aims of the pupil and the school must be complemen- tary. Mr. Roark MR. LOGAN ROARK Guidance We, the Seniors of 1964, wish to take this opportunity to express our sincere appreciation to you, our faculty, who have been such a great help to us in our four-year search for knowl- edge. We sincerely hope that your remembrance of the Class of '64 will be a pleasant one. We wish, also, to express our very deep gratitude to Miss Georgia Bramlet for her aid, without which we could never have sponsored the Homecoming of 1964. With the Class of ‘64 In 1960 fifty-seven of us became a part of R. C. H. S. For our first year we chose Keith Dillard as our president. With Mrs. Ramsey and Mr. Hill as our sponsors, we enjoyed a picnic at Cave-in-Rock and a swimming party at Dixon Springs. A year later saw us as sophomores with 52 enrolled. In '61 we chose Donnie Brockett as our leader for the year. Miss Herpel, as our sponsor, helped us sponsor two all school dances. When we returned in the fall of '62 our enrollment had dropped to 47 members. Bob Jones was our choice for presi- dent our junior year. With Miss Herpel and Mr. Cotton as our sponsors, we had an all school party. On May 10 we invited the Seniors to the Prom at the Mc- Curdy Hotel in Evansville, Indiana. We enjoyed a wonderful evening with dinner and dancing. Early the next morning we returned home to see two movies and to have breakfast of doughnuts and hot chocolate. We returned once again to R. C. H.S. for the last time as a class in the fall of '63. Out of our 44 members, we chose Tom West as president. Our sponsors for the year were Mrs. Ramsey, Mr. Chamberlain, and Mr. Irvin. Under the supervision of Miss Bramlet we sponsored our SWEETHEARTS AROUND THE WORLD” Homecoming in February. In the spring we conducted the annual magazine drive, which netted us a good profit, which was used to good advan- tage on our senior trip during May. Also, with the spring thaw came an invitation from the Juniors to a prom in our honor, again to be held at the McCurdy Hotel. The next milestone on our journey through Ridgway High is Commencement on May 22, 1964. Yes, the Class of 64 is really ON THE MOVE. 1 SENIOR OFFICERS: Darlene Naas - Vice Pres. , Jackie Choate - Treas. , Tom West - Pres. , and Donnie Brockett - Reporter. They organized themselves as the Class of '65” and elected Terry Hargrave as president. Early in their freshman year they gave a get- acquainted party. Their freshman G. A. A. team won the intramural softball championship, the first freshman class ever to do so. The next fall the class enrollment decreased to 69. They chose as president, Jim Henson. They sponsored a Sopho- more Workday” to earn money for their prom. They also en- joyed a sophomore dance. In G.A.A. activities they again won the softball championship and also the basketball crown. Only 58 returned for the junior year. They chose Rita Phillips as president. A junior picnic was planned. The class sold Eagle Sweatshirts and Basketball Ballpoints to promote school and class spirit. They planned the prom for May 1, and invited the seniors as guests. Yes, from the greenie year through the jolly year, they were good years. JUNIOR SPONSORS: Mrs. Roy, and Mr. Cotton.
