NOW If THE TIME.. Every senior, whether he plans to enter the Armed Forces, go into business or attend school, has at one time or another been ad- vised to take advantage of his opportunities and make the most of himself. Many take this little morsel of advice with a grain of salt, let it go at that, and proceed to forget about it until next time. When each next time rolls around, there's a repeat performance and it goes on in this manner right through high school, college, and sometimes further. It isnit until he finds himself in a position where there is only the choice of sink or swim, that all the advice seems, for the first time, to be good advice after all. If we would stop and think about what will be in store for us once the gay ole days of high school and college are over and we must earn our livings, we would realize how stiff the competition is now and will be in the future. The better positions go to the better men, to those who know how to work and play hard and do their best in whatever they attempt. So how about taking this advice to heart and seriously think about the future and plan to make the most out of whatever opportu- nities you have. Now is the time to learn to work and play hard so that it will be said, The Class of '47 really has gone places! Bon ZIRKLE THE BALLS IN PLAY.. Time out in a basketball game in the final minute with the score tied-the tenseness of the crowd momentarily disappears as they relax and await the referee's whistle signify- ing that the ball is in play once more. But, as the philosophers say, not so in life, for the game is continually in motion and if one re- laxes, those precious moments will be lost forever. The ball is constantly in play, and an opportunity missed is an opportunity lost. Participating in competitive athletics, as in f I4 most social activities, keeps one on the right path, for the ability to live and work with people is one of the greatest assets a person can possess. Another is a pleasing personality. When a studiously smart fellow has this asset too, he is two jumps ahead of a person of lesser intelligence. Time marches on, but, say the sages, lf you hitch your wagon to a star, beware that it doesn't travel so quickly that you can't keep up with it l JACK TENNEY l
