In the fall quite a few eager students assigned their voices for twice a week with Mr. Asbe. These were the students in Girls' Glee Club, Boys' Glee Club, and Mixed Chorus. They took part in the all-school Christmas Program with the band. Sandra Fjelstul, Kay Trytten, and JeRoy Fjelstul were selected from our vocal department to take part in the annual Dorian Vocal Festival at Luther College. In March the soloists and trio began practicing their se- lections which would be judged at the State Music Contest to be held at Volga City. Finally the day arrived fApril 12thJ and together with the band they journeyed to Volga City for a very exciting day. Andrea Bak- ken and Kay Trytten received a division I rating in Treble Voice Medium solos. .IeRoy Fjelstul's baritone solo also received a I, along with the girls trio. Those receiving II's on solos were: Ramona Anderson, and Denis We- mark. A few of the favorites of the Girls' Glee Club were There's a Hole in My Bucket , Some Folks Do , and Angel Voices Ever Singing The boys don't say much about what they sing. Those attending were as follow: dramatic, Neva Lehman and Charlene Woldang interpretive reading, Leilani Hovden, Andrea Bak ken and Sharon Hoveg humorous, LaVonne Frana. Beverly Rue, and Lila Bakkeng oratory, Kay Trytten. We also had 3. one-act play this year named Women in Council. The cast included Kay Tryttcn, Phi- lip Ryan, Andrea Bakken, Charles Meyer, Leilani Hovden, Ramona Anderson and David Sime. They will never forget the night they gave it for the Ridgeway Community and they left out half of it! Those receiving I's in the first contest were Leilani Hovden and Kay Trytten. They advanced to the District Contest which was held at Dubuque.At this contest Kay again received a division I rating. The State Contest was held at Grinnell College in Grinnell. In her oration, entitled America's King- Sized Tomboys, Kay was awarded a division I rating. Congratulations to her and all the other declam students for their splendid work.
