Last fall a good number of chirping students signed up for Girls' Chorus, Boys' Chorus and Mixed Chorus. These groups took part in the all school Christmas Con- cert under the direction of Mrs. Ramsay. The Boys' Chorus and the Girls' Chorus sang three selected Christ- mas Carols. The Mixed Chorus sang Fred Waring's ar- rangement of T'was The Night Before Christmas which seemed to delight the audience, as was evidenced by the smiles on their faces. Sandra Fjelstul, Leilani Hovden, Carol Peterson and Elaine Phipps were selected from our vocal department to participate in the Dorian Vocal Festival at Luther College. In February, tryouts were held for soloists and vocal groups which would compete in the State Music Contest at Garnavillo. As contest time was drawing near, Mrs, Norland had the piano wheeled into her Eng- lish room, where the students in study hall could hear a fewsour notes mixed in with the sweet ones. On Sat- i urday, April 14, the vocal members joined with the band members for an early morning jaunt to the Music Con- test. Students participating in this event were: Sandra Amundson,Rarnona Anderson, Andre a Bakken, Linda Bakken, Sandra Fjelstul, Leilani Hovden, Sharron Hove, Elaine Phipps, Treva Sime, Jean Smith, Delaine Vatt- hauer, Kay Trytten,Jeroy Fjelstul, Andrea and Kay re- ceived a I rating in their solos and the Girls Trio also received a I rating. Many songs have been sung in Chorus, easy ones and hard ones, and ofthese some remain favorites. A favor- ite song in Girls Chorus is A Little Song Of Life and Big Brown Bear . A favorite among the members of Mixed Chorus is BeautifulSavior , and a chosen one in Boys Chorus is The Deaf Old Woman . We now find the Girls Chorus and Mixed Chorus busi- ly rehearsing their selections which they will sing for Baccalaureate and Commencement.
