R At the beginning of the school year five new members of the Student Council were elected by the student body. The council elected Wayne Kreitzer, president, Treva Sime, vice-president, and Denis Wemark, secretary-treasurer. Other members of the Council were Norvin Anderson, Senior, Wayne Wemark and Andrea Bakken, Jun- ior, Sonja Amundson, Sophomore, and Leanne Bakken and Kenneth Nesvik, Freshmen class rep- resentatives. The highlight of this year's activities was a Game Night, sponsored by the Student Council for the entire high school on November 4th, 1955. Cootie occupied about halfof the evening while the remainder was spent in various group games such as Winkum , Streets and Alleys , Jacob and Rachael and assorted relays. All who at- tended the party will long remember Norvin and Wayne Wemark galloping down the gym floor dur- ing the three-legged race! For the high school Christmas Party on Decem- ber 21st, the Student Council was in charge of decorating the tree and distributing the gifts. Dickie Armstrong did a wonderful job as a realis- tic and humorous Santa Claus. The Student Council a d de d to the Activity Fund by serving refreshments at the Homecoming and other basketball games. Heading this year's Annual Staff was Treva Sime, editor. Wayne Kreitzer was in charge of advertising and Elaine Phipps was head of the sales department. The sports editor was Harlan Bakken. Cheryl Aschim was music editor and Mary Ryan was grade editor. Richard Ladwig served as pho- rographer. Under the leadership oflvlr. Rober, advisor, the staffworked hard to meet its deadlines. A few of the members of the staff not only stayed after school to work, but also came to school at 7:30 or so in the morning. The staff had a lot of fun Putting out this year's annual and would like to wish next year's group much success. E! Mr. Shileny had a bit of re- building to doin the bass section, due to the loss of two fine trombonists and sousaphonists. The first semester found the pep band giving support to the basketball teams with their marches atthe home games. A Christ- mas Concertwas presented jointly by the Band and Vo- cal departments before school dismissed forthe holi- days. Coming back from a hearty vacation, practice ses- sions were resumed. Selections were now being con- sidered by soloists and ensembles for the State Music Contest. The band also set to work and tackled Poet and Peasant overture. This proved to be a challenge and in mid-February Mr. Rober made a tape-recording ofouraccomplishment. We firstheard The Boston Sym- phony play it, then we recorded. The playback sur- prised most of us as the results were quite good. Jean, Treva, Harlan and Cheryl were selected from our band to participate in the Dorian Music Festival at Luther College. The band attended the annual Cresco Band Festival on April 12. Our newly organized ensem- ble groups performed before critics and received favor- able comments. Garnavillo was the site of the State music Contest on April 14, and this meant an e arly departure from school. Students taking part in this event were: Mary Jane Aga, Ferdie Armstrong, Cheryl Aschim, Andrea Bakken, Harlan Bakken, Lila Bakken, Jeroy Fjelstul, Sandra Fjelstul, Leilani Hovden, Betty Jir a k, Wayne Kreitzer, Kenneth Nesvik, Alan Rue, Beverly Rue, David Sime, Treva Sime, Jean Smith, Kay Trytten, Tommy Trytten, Dennis Wemark, Marilyn Wemark and Wayne Wemark. About 10:00 p.m., when all our groupshad finished playing,we set out for home. After journeying a few miles, a few members decided they were not as sleepy asthe rest and proceeded to liven things up with a jam session. Preparations are now being made for a Spring Con- cert which will conclude our band season. These groups took part in the all school Christmas Con- cert under the direction of Mrs. Ramsay. The Boys' Chorus and the Girls' Chorus sang three selected Christ- mas Carols. The Mixed Chorus sang Fred Waring's ar- rangement of T'was The Night Before Christmas which seemed to delight the audience, as was evidenced by the smiles on their faces. Sandra Fjelstul, Leilani Hovden, Carol Peterson and Elaine Phipps were selected from our vocal department to participate in the Dorian Vocal Festival at Luther College. In February, tryouts were held for soloists and vocal groups which would compete in the State Music Contest at Garnavillo. As contest time was drawing near, Mrs, Norland had the piano wheeled into her Eng- lish room, where the students in study hall could hear a fewsour notes mixed in with the sweet ones. On Sat- i urday, April 14, the vocal members joined with the band members for an early morning jaunt to the Music Con- test. Students participating in this event were: Sandra Amundson,Rarnona Anderson, Andre a Bakken, Linda Bakken, Sandra Fjelstul, Leilani Hovden, Sharron Hove, Elaine Phipps, Treva Sime, Jean Smith, Delaine Vatt- hauer, Kay Trytten,Jeroy Fjelstul, Andrea and Kay re- ceived a I rating in their solos and the Girls Trio also received a I rating. Many songs have been sung in Chorus, easy ones and hard ones, and ofthese some remain favorites. A favor- ite song in Girls Chorus is A Little Song Of Life and Big Brown Bear . A favorite among the members of Mixed Chorus is BeautifulSavior , and a chosen one in Boys Chorus is The Deaf Old Woman . We now find the Girls Chorus and Mixed Chorus busi- ly rehearsing their selections which they will sing for Baccalaureate and Commencement. Scare 6440144 Kay Tryrten, Andrea Bakken, Sandra Fjelstul V Noel, Noel Twelve days ofanxious waiting preceded the Home- coming festivities for four popular Seniors. These four had been kept in suspense since the day of election and finally,on the afternoon of that festive day of Decem- ber 20th, they learned that Wayne l-lovden and Treva Sime would reign as King and Queen while Cheryl As- chim and Harlan Bakken were chose n by the student body to be attendants from the Senior Class. Not in suspense, but still excited, were the under- classmen attendants: Leilani l-lovden and Alan Rue, Juniorsg Beverly Rue and Denis Wemark, Sophomoresg and Leanne Bakken and Tommy Trytten, Freshmen. The crownbearers, chosen from the first and second grade, were Lorraine Bergan and Dennis Hovden. As the evening drewcloser, letters were put up which spelled out Merry Christmas , Happy New Year , Welcome Alumni , and Welcome Lime Springs . The royal throne in the middle of the bleachers had been decorated in red, green and silver crepe paper. Mrs. Cook and her Home Ec. class had been busy making cookies for the alumni reception after the game. That evening a large crowd was on hand for the games and for the coronation which took place between the boys' and girls' games. Wayne Kreitzer, Student Council president, acted ably as master of ceremonies. Amid the fanfare of four trumpets and Pomp and Cir- cumstance as played on the piano by Sandra Fjelstul, the King, Queen and their royal attendants marched to the middle of the floor for the Coronation. Coach An- derson was called forward to crown the King and Queen. Aftera brief speech by the newly crowned pair, Russell Bakken, ofthe Ridgeway Fire Department, presented the Queen with a bouquet ofpink and white carnations. The Queen and her attendants were then escorted to their throne where they reigned over a thrilling basketball game in which the Ridgeway boys won over Lime Springs by a hair's breadth. The Alumni reception was held in the Church after the game while a Sock Hop was enjoyed by the young- er set in the gym. HRPPY King. HHPDY Qlleenl Where are the crowns??
