Basketball Homecoming Spurs Excitement The I979 Basketball Home- coming was a great event. The girls' team won over the White Station girls in an exciting over- time game. Although the Varsity boys lost, they put up a good fight in their down-to-the wire game. At half-time, Paula Pounds was crowned the I979 Basketball Homecoming Queen by Cherri Smith, captain of the Varsity Cheerleaders, and Mike Wyatt, captain of the Varsity Basketball team. Unbelievable Girls' Basketball Season Coach Mary Robertson led the Sen- ior High Girls' basketball team to a record of 22 wins and 6 losses. This was the most successful record in the his- tory of Ridgeway's girls' basketball. The girls broke their record for num- ber of points in a game when they scored 81 points against Sheffield. The team's leading rebounder was Mary Marable. while Kelly Novack led in steals. Winning the District l6AA Tourna- ment was one of their many victories. Fonda Phillips received the Most Valu- able Player Award. Liz Marable, Von- dra Armstrong, and Amy Wheat were chosen for the All District team. Another honor was winning runner- up in the 8AA Regional Tournament. Fonda Phillips was chosen the Most Valuable Player again in this tourna- ment. The team also went to the Sub- State tournament. but lost in their first game to Humboldt. We'd like to extend our congratula- tions to the team and Coach Robertson for doing an outstandingjob.
