ARTICULATE SPEECH DEPARTMENT HAS A VERY SUCCESSFUL YEAR This year, the Speech Department under the leadership of Mrs. Georgia Moore reached higher and went far- ther than they have ever gone before. A speech tournament did not go past without at least a dozen participants in the many categories. Many trophies and certificates won this year proved how talented this department was. Trophy winners included: Lida Grant, Missy Levine, Ingrid Halpern, Leslie Levy, Dawn Hunt, Debbie Harkavy. and Dev Butler. In order to have money to cover these tournaments and other expenses, the Speech Dep't held many fundraisers this year, including a carwash, bakesales, and the Thornton Wilder play, Our Town. To wrap up the very successful year, a speech banquet was held at The Loft Restaurant. The banquet was a great success and was a perfect ending to a fantastic year of speech. , J Ridgeway s R.O.T.C. Battalion When the Director of Instruc- tions compared all 28 ROTC Units based on all competition, Rid ewa finished in the top thin? for the school year 1978-79. On the major inspections this year, the Roadrunner Battalion received a score of 97.13 on the DA1, and a 93.40 on the Federal Ins Inspection. In October 1978, Kim Roy was voted the ROTC Queen and Bar- bara Crawford was voted the alternate. On November 11, 1979, the Ridgeway Battalion Staff Officers, Drill Team Members, ROTC Queen, and Alternate marched in the Veteran's Day Parade. ROTC Staff Sitting Left to Right: LTC.
