Ridgeway DECA Third in Nation This year's DECA Chapter was the busiest and most successful yet. They had a number of projects including participation in a Haunted House, a con- cession booth at the Germantown Festival, and Employee Breakfast, elementary school programs, and a Halloween Festival. The Chapter had several guest speakers at their meetings, including State Rep- resentative Joe Kent QR-Memphisj and Marion Bur- gess, a Channel 3 personality. Ridgeway DECA was very successful in the competi- tive events with twenty members going to Regional, seventeen going to State and four going to National. ARTICULATE SPEECH DEPARTMENT HAS A VERY SUCCESSFUL YEAR This year, the Speech Department under the leadership of Mrs. Georgia Moore reached higher and went far- ther than they have ever gone before. A speech tournament did not go past without at least a dozen participants in the many categories. Many trophies and certificates won this year proved how talented this department was. Trophy winners included: Lida Grant, Missy Levine, Ingrid Halpern, Leslie Levy, Dawn Hunt, Debbie Harkavy. and Dev Butler. In order to have money to cover these tournaments and other expenses, the Speech Dep't held many fundraisers this year, including a carwash, bakesales, and the Thornton Wilder play, Our Town. To wrap up the very successful year, a speech banquet was held at The Loft Restaurant. The banquet was a great success and was a perfect ending to a fantastic year of speech.
