Chaparral Staff The 1978-79 Chaparral staff was extremely successful in all endeavors this year. This was largely due to the tremendous support of the students, faculty, and an enthusiastic staff. Over 400 annuals were sold and ad sales, especially homeroom ads, topped all previous sales. Mark Benton, as the top ad salesman. won a camera for his efforts. In February, the second annual Miss Chaparral contest was held. After a year of cooperative effort, the 1979 Chaparral emerged a tri- umph. Second Annual Miss Chaparral On the l5th and l6th of February, the second annual Miss Chaparral pageant was held. Elevenjun- ior and senior girls participated, representing various clubs and organizations. The competition began Thursday evening at 7:00 at a dinner held for the contestants. their parents, their sponsors and guests. After dinner. each girl spoke about her plans for the future. Friday morning, second and third periods, the girls performed their talents for Ridgeway students and thejudges. Singing, dancing. a dramatic monologue. a piano solo, roller skating, and comedy skits were the talents Robin Vaillancourt, lst alternate Robin, Karen, Dawn displayed. Friday night at 7:30, the weeks of planning and practice ended when the final competition began. The show opened with the girls dancing to Here Comes the Robert E. Lee . followed by talent. eve- ning gown competition and the top five speeches. The Ridgeway High School Band. the Junior High Swing Choir, the Senior High Swing Choir, and the Escorts performances added to the program. Dave Nichols, WHBQ Disc Jockey. was the guest Master of Cere- monies. The show was judged by Mr. Gilbert Hal- pern, Mr. Mark Stansberry, Miss Mabel Springfield, and Mrs. Manie Fitzgerald. v Dawn Clark, 2nd alternate
