SENIOR CLASS HISTORY We, the class of nineteen hundred and fifty one, are proud and happy to say that we have successfully completed twelve years of school. On September 1st of 1939, thirty-five boys and girls made up the first grade. It was something new to us and we all seemed a little bit frightened at first, but later we learned each other a little better, and it wasn’t quite as bad. Our teacher that year was Miss Jean Starnes. The following year we found ourselves very well satisfied, under the direction of Miss Margaret Clark, in the second grade. In the third grade we were under the leadership of Miss Louise Montgomery. The fourth grade found us under Miss Marian Hines, but due to the illness of her mother, we had every person in town who had ever seen a school room for a teacher. The next year we were under Mrs. Nicholson for the first time. We also had Miss Foster and Miss Rayfield. In the sixth grade we were under the guidance of Mrs. Nicholson and Mrs. Hamilton. June Wilson joined us that year. We were still under Mrs. Nicholson in the seventh grade with the help of Miss Castles. Five members joined us that year, they were: Howard Moore, Etheleen Gerald, Ellen Branham, Ferris Branham, and Raymond Cooke. Ail through the years people have joined us and then have left us, much to our sorrow. In September of 1947, a small group of boys and girls entered the eighth grade. This was all something new to us. Mary Gulledge joined us from Kramer High School in Washington. The next year we were really in high school in Mrs. McEachern’s room. At the beginning of the tenth year we were sorry to have Ann Edmunds leave us and go to Stuart Hall in Virginia. Mary Gulledge went to Pulaski, New York this year, but was back with us at the end of our junior year. Juniors now, and our number cut to eight with Oree Gunter leaving us made it seven. The highlight that year was our Junior-Senior Reception. Nancy Palmer left us this year and attended Sky Valley in North Carolina. We are seniors now with only one member to go through these twelve years from the original class. This is none other than Billy Weir. Now, near the close of our twelve years, there are seven members waiting for the night when we shall receive our diplomas. We seven shall never forget Ridgeway High School, nor the teachers who so kindly helped us pave the way. Billy Weir Class Historian Joyce Beckham Estelle Branham Fay Branham Sec. and Treas.
