HIGH SCHOOL HOME ECONOMICS CLUB The girls in the home economics department organized a club for the purpose of furthering the interest in home economics in school and after graduation. During the school year the club baked and sold doughnuts and cookies to raise money to help buy needed equipment and articles that would add to the attractiveness of the home economics room. On April 4th the club sponsored an Easter Bonnet Banquet which was served to approximately 100 guests in the gym. A tea for the Senior girls and for the incoming Freshmen was held in April. Our season opened with Ridgeville playing Green at Albany. Green won over a very nervous Ridgeville squad by a score of 53 to 41. Our pride was hurt somewhat by the defeat handed us by our greatest rival, the Jefferson Red Devils. The score was 49 to 32, Things were beginning to look pretty blue, but we won the next three games: Lynn, 49 to 34: Madison, 56 to 24g and Spartansburg, 38 to 30. Then started our losing streak. We lost seven in a row: Albany, 39 to 363 Jackson, 61 to 34: Grey, 59 to 51: Roll, 55 to 49: Jefferson 53 to 255 Stoney Creek, 54 to 39: and Huntsville, 35 to 33. We finally Won our fourth game from McKinley, 37 to 27. In winding up the season we lost the last five games: Bryant, 68 to Z8 Saratoga, 35 to 33, Montpelier, 55 to 36g and Wayne, 61 to ZZ. There were 18 innocent little first graders who were thrilled at the prospect. In the eight years that followed some of our classmates left to attend other schools and some new pupils were enrolled, These years passed very fast and before we knew it we were entering high school under the common name of Freshies. We all had our lockers and were quite shocked when we discovered that everyone else used such a gadget. Along with these new fangled gadgets we had quite a struggle with the Seniors. It seems that they had ideas of initiation that we Freshies didn't agree with. Although things were a little gummy, we got laughs about it afterwards. Along with our sponsor, Miss Jane DeVoe, we had a very happy Freshman year. As Sophomores we finally lost that name greenie. During this year we were very eager to make money for our class. The first semester we sold personalized stationery and assorted cards, sponsored skating parties, and presented our first play, a one act comedy, Make Room For Rodney, We also helped up the Boosters Club by selling Cossack badges. In December we received our class sweaters which were cardinal and gold. Just before school was out we ordered our class rings. The officers for this year were Wilma Lewis, president: Kenneth Bisel, vice-president: Wanda Allman, secretary: Rex Collins, treasurer: Wayne Pettyjohn, reporter: and Jack Fisher and Juanita Hotmire, student council members. Mrs. Florence Brown was our sponsor. Our first thought as Juniors was to find a way to make enough money to take the Seniors on a trip to Detroit. We worked like little beavers this year during noon hours and at the basketball games selling ice cream, soft drinks, and candy. In addition to this concession we sold boxes of salt water taffy, sponsored skating parties, and sold magazine subscriptions. Juanita Hotmire, who sold the most, received the highest honors and a wrist watch. In October we received our class rings and wore them with pride. We left our first class meeting with the following officers elected: Wayne Pettyj ohn, president: Shirley Fenimore, vice-president: Wanda Allman, secretary: Wilma Lewis, treasurer: Herbert Huffman, reporter: Kenneth Bisel and Betty Golden, student council representatives. Miss Patricia Schenk and Mrs. Dorothy Repphan were our sponsors. On March 30, under the direction of Mrs. Vivian Stotlemyer, we gave a three-act comedy, Meet Romeo Morgan, which was a big success. Two days after school was out we took the Seniors to Detroit and everybody enjoyed himself for four days. Electing Kenneth Bisel, president: Jack Fisher, vice-president: Wanda Allman, secretary Wilma Lewis, treasurer: Shirley Fenimore and Don Lewis, student council members: Juanita Hotmire and Wayne Pettyjohn, class historians, we began our last year. Mrs. Butler acted as our class sponsor guiding us through this exciting time. Passing out name cards and getting our pictures taken added to the thrills of being a Senior. Immediately after school began, we started getting our class play under way. After working four long and weary weeks we presented A Ready Made Family, which was a howling success. The second semester found the studious Seniors busy every minute constructing their annual with the help of our sponsor, Mrs. Butler. We organized a Senior Study Club which met every two weeks for the purpose of studying various topics suggested by the class. The Senior girls joined the Home Economics Club the second semester where they learned many things. Next on our minds were class day, baccalaureate, and commencement. We are now realizing that our time is almost up and we will be leaving R. H. S. But as we pass through those doors and as they close behind us, we say good-bye and good luck to all our underclassmen. I'd like to, but my wife is uptown looking for more new clothes. You know how women are. The telephone rings. Pardon me, Jack. Might be some of the boys at the plant wanting advice on something new. Upon returning. I have to pick up my wife in a few minutes, but we might as well have a little chat. As both are top men in two of the states largest industrial firms, they talk about their work in general and as Jack is about to leave Ken remarks: Say, why don't we have a big party, to bring together all of our classmates '? That sounds great. l'll be in town for a couple of weeks, and during this time we can get together and plan it. Well, I'd better be leaving now: I have a lot of things to attend to. Sorry you can't stay longer. So am I3 but you know women, ot to kee them ha . 8 'P PPY Ken watches .Tack's long, red Lincoln Convertible slink onto the road and glide away toward the west. As he turns away from the door, he watches the great blazing sun nestle its way into the bosom of the horizon, and a great feeling of loneliness floods through him. With a sigh he collapses in a large chair to watch the deep purple fingers close around the surrounding country side. As he relaxes, memories and thoughts travel through his brain. How things changei There was Wayne Pettyjohn, also a member of the basketball, baseball, and track teams. Always cheerful. Ownsfone of the largest farms in the state. He went to college to get his start. Betty Golden. We all had fun with Betty. Now she's teaching first grade students. Never thought I d see the day, but nevertheless there she is. Good old Bernard Friend. We had a lot of fun when we worked at Kraft. I quit and came here, bifliernie' stayed, and now he is managing a plant of his own. .Tuanita Hotmire and Jay were married one month when Jay was home on leave. Stays with her mother-in-law and taking care of the work keeps her own mischievousness to a minimum. Robert Osborne ot married and took to farmin in a bi way.
