During the school year we gained: Geneva Barnett, Bobby Evans, Danzil Auker, Bill Fruitt, Phyllis McClarren, LA1ice and Lydia Young. In the Third Grade we lost: Phyllis McClarren, Betty Terrell, Myrtle Shanefelt, Bob Hershberger, and ivan Durham. During the Fourth Grade we gained: Nina Carpenter, Phillip Hathawey, Lois Ramsey, Doris Alderman, Roy Shaneyfelt, Carol Murphy, Eugene and Norman Cloyd, Alice and Lydia Young. Those who joined in the Fifth Grade were: Bob Gant, Frank Hummell, Edward Young, Richard l-limes, Marilyn Platt. Jay Tharp, and Roberta Busch. In the Sixth Grade: Kenneth Besel, Phyllis Galbriath, and Annalee Huffman joined. Our class lost Kenneth Bisel, Bob Fox, Philip Hathaway, Carol Murphy, Max Keener, and Roberta Busch. , We were joined by Kieth Milligan, Ralph Warner, and Marvin Osborne in the Seventh Grade. ' Those who joined us in the Eighth Grade were: Geneva Barnett, Doris Clark, Eddie Cox, Maria Hoffman, Jim E. Lewis, Burl McCord, Bill Richards, Bob Moyer, Theresa Morris, and Bob Simpson. Burl McCord, Nina Carpenter, Edward Young, Priscella Rench, Maria Hoffman, Roy Shanetfelt, Douglas Bright, Bill Fruit, Theresa Morris, Jack Tharp, Ralph Warner, Marvin Osborne, Genevieve James, Frank Hummel, Richard I-limes, Philip Hathaway, and Phyllis Galbriath were lost in the course of this year. In the Ninth Grade we sold popcorn at the ball games and also magazine subscriptions. We had two class parties during the year. kln the course of the Tenth Grade we lost Geneva Barnett, Doris Clark, Phyllis Jessup and Marilyn Platt. During this year we enjoyed two class parties, sponsored movies, and sold pennants. in our Eleventh year we gained Dan Ellis, Jim G. Lewis, and Merritt Patrick. At the latter part of the year we lost Lois Ann Ramsey, Merritt Patrick, Bob Simpson, Dan Ellis, and Bob Gant. This year we sold magazine subscriptions, Christmas holly, candy and ice cream at the ball games and at noon at the school. The last semester we gave a play Along Came Killroy which was a very good success. At the close of the year we took a trip to Chicago with the Seniors. This trip was enjoyed by everyone, Finally our last year came and we started it by having our Senior pictures taken at Dunkirk. immediately following the pictures we started to work on our class play. The play was Hobgoblin House presented on October 24. When we had finished the play we began to think about our Commencement announcements which we selected'along with our name cards. We then chose Reverend Raymond Harris for the commencement speaker, and Reverend William Barnard for the baccalaureate speaker. On May sixth a time that every- one had looked forward to for twelve years we had our baccalaureate service and May eleventh was Commencement night and everyone was proud to receive their diplomas and start out in the world to face the cares and problems that come. Class Prophecy On a beautiful sunny day, May 4, 1961, a dedication banquet was held in honor of Denzil Auker who donated funds to build a tennis court and swimming pool for Ridgeville High School. Denzil has made a fortune by starting a line of filling stations with superior petroleum products. Jim Tharp, a famous architect, drew the plans for our elaborate swim- ming pool and streamlined tennis court. Jim was present at the dedication and his famous sense of humor was displayed. The entertainment was provided by Junior Van Skyock, who demon- strated his new sky-rocket jet. This was the third super jet Junior has designed and tested. After everyone relaxed from Junior's nerve -racking stunts, Bill Richards explained how his non-multiplying multiplication table would simplify any problem which might arise. This startling discovery has won Bill fame all over the country. Bob Moyer and Annalee Huffman have married and now have twins. These twins keep Annalee very busy. Bob was recently promoted to Senior Part- ner of a construction company in Indianapolis. Carolyn Sue Cook was present and explained all the latest fashions. Carolyn now operates a series of Sweet Sue dress shops. Myrtle Shaneyfelt disagreed with Carolyn Cook's ideas of the latest fashion. Myrtle has just designed a completely new line in style. Now the lines go around instead of up and down. Jim E. Lewis, who owns half of Randolph County, was persuaded by Jay Tharp, who also owns half of Randolph County to consolidate. This would give them control of the tomato industry in Indiana. Eldon Landers. head of the Sales Department in the National Cash Reg- ister Company, attended the dedication banquet. Everyone else present took home a cash register, thanks to Eldon's selling ability. Phyllis Cline now operates an experimental kitchen. She has discover- ed many famous recipes. Her most famous achievement was the discovery of vitamin pellets to replace rational foods. Bob Limbert was late for the banquet, as his jet -mobile blew a fuse. Bob had to return .to his machine shop to obtain another fuse. The banquet was attended by Mary Alice Harshman, now Howell, who flew home from New York for the occasion. To everyone's surprise she has become an efficiency expert in the General Motors Plant. Jim G. Lewis, looking very nifty in his sailor's suit, attended the banquet. Jim told how he became commander-in-chief of a large naval fleet. This was very interesting, all the more so because he started as cook, third class, Keith Milligan with his: piano -accordion combo, accompanied by his band, closed the gala occas'ion with his popular, It Was In The Smog I Didn't See Her or I Missed My Dreamboat . Everyone was invited to the Palace Ice Cream Parlorgfor free refresh ments at the end of the day. The Palace management has been taken over by Doris Alderman who started as a soda -jerk. The only member of the Class of '51 absent from the dedication was Eddie Cox. He is home on leave from the Navy, but his wife won't let him out of her sight. Farewell We have come to the end of our high school days, and are entering a life that will be only what we make it. We have studied hard to form the steps of life which we have chosen to follow. There have been many times when we did not agree with one another, but there was always a willing hand to help us arrive at an agreement. Some of our classmates dropped out of school when the going was rough, but the rest of us decided to remain and ,make the best of it. So many people think of school as all work and no uplay. We have had our class parties, and many other activities which we have all enjoyed. We have waited patiently for twelve years for our diplomas. Now that we have our diplomas and have completed our school days, we want to bid every faculty member and student farewellg for we have enjoyed graduat- ing from Ridgeville High School. The group was divided into couples and each couple played various pranks--such as eating grapes for human eyeballs, pushing a green walnut across the floor with his nose, etc. Although this sounds rather severe everyone enjoyed it. A hayride and a wiener roast were combined into a party, which was held at Lois Gilkison's home. Lois Gilkison and John Shockney have been on the honor roll regularly this year. HAR OLD WAKEFIELD ELDON LANDERS th the lmdalv' Uwhada ya say First Team Yell Leaders Annalee Huffman , Denzil Auker Juanita Hotmire The Cossack Trail 'A J Basketball. The Cossacks lost their first game to Green on their home floor. lt was close all the way with Green coming out 35 to 34. Coming back from a close defeat, the Cossacks rode the Jefferson Red Devils down at Saratoga 57 to 52 in the best game of the year. Then host to Lynn Bulldogs the Cossacks defeated them in a close game 38 to 36. The Cossacks met their second defeat of the year by the Hartford City Airedales. The final score was Z7 to 47. , The Cossacks galloped to an easy victory over the Saratoga Warriors, 41 to Z3. The Cossacks got off to a fast start but were down in the third and fourth quarters, lt was a rough and tumble game. Both teams were in bad spirits. The Albany Wildcats finally came through on top 34 to 32. The Jackson Bulldogs came to Ridgeville with high hopes but they went home with their spirits in a bucket, as the Cossacks downed them 47 to 32. Ridgeville traveled to the Portland Armory and on to defeat at the hands of the Gray Redbirds 58 to 41. The Cossacks were rolled under by the Roll Red Rollers on the Rollers home floor. It was a run and shoot game all the way with the Cossacks going under in the last few minutes 47 to 4.0. Because of a mix-up in the schedule by Montpelier, the game was postponed until a later date: and from the looks of the score, 30 to 60, Ridgeville was mixed up on that date. Ridgeville and Jefferson met for the second time this year. The game was rougher and not as good of ball handling was shown. lt was another victory for Ridgeville on their home floor. The score was 49 to 36. - County Tournament ' The Cossacks went into the county tourney with hopes of winning it. They played Saratoga the first game and were on their way as they downed the Warriors 47 to 43. Then they ran up against the Spartanburg Tomcats and soon pulled them under by an eleven point win, and on to the semi- finals where they met the Jackson Bulldogs. It was close all the way. The Cossacks missed too many foul shots, which put them out of the tourna - ment by a one point margin. Jackson Bulldogs went on to win the tourney. The Cos sacks racked up another victory over the Huntsville Five on our home floor. The game was slow but the Cossacks pulled away little by little to win 52 to 42. The Cossacks lost to the Wayne Tigers after leading up to the last few minutes of the game 50 to 45. The McKinley game was cancelled because of bad weather. The Cossacks and Warriors had it out on the Warriors home floor, The game was rough and fast with the Warriors winning out after two defeats by the Cossacks 43 to 47. The Cossacks went to Spartanburg and played the Tomcats for the second time this year. The Cossacks weren't quite as successful as they were in their first game. The Tomcats were hot and played a good game of ball as the score shows, 50 to 66. Sectional Tournament The Cossacks started off in the second session of play by defeating the Pennville Bulldogs 54 to 42 and then on to meet the Montpelier Pacers in the last game on Friday night. The Pacers had beaten the Cossacks thirty points in season play, but the story was different in the sectional. It was a new game and the Cossacks put in a punch that caught the Pacers by surprise. But by luck-or something -the Pacers beat the Cossacks by one point. The Cossacks could not hit their last few foul shots. But the pressure was so great, it's a wonder they could stand still because they were so nervous. Honesty The Greatest Virtue of the Athlete It seems that of the many virtues necessary for the ideal athlete, honesty is the greatest of all. It is of greater importance that natural ability, effort, determination andwill power. The athlete cannot utilize these to the utmost unless he is honest to himself. No one can tell if an athlete is putting out . These virtues are judged but not measured: only the athlete that is honest to himself can measure them. Athletes come from all walks of life and all have some limitations. Many have overcome great disadvantages in order to excel. Most have made some sacrifices in order to participate. These limitations, dis- advantages, and sacrifices could not have been overcome if these ath- letes had not have been honest in their desire to do the very best that they possibly could do. General Rules for Classroom Use Tell your teachers you are not at all interested in the subject, and do all you can to back up your statement. Come in whistling in a jovial manner. It adds to the spirit of com- radeship. Get acquainted in your class with your neighbors. Tell your teachers they are wrong. They like it. Don't bring pencil or paper to class. Your neighbors always have some. ' Look out the windows and doors as much as possible, and keep up on current events. Use combs and compacts industriously. lt pays to be well-groomed If anything funny happens, laugh as loud and long as is humanly pos- sible. If you have lost any sleep, make it up in class. The teachers would not want to deprive you of your rest. Never study for a quiz. If you have any chance of copying without getting caught, take it. II you sit upon a tack, get up. Why Teachers Go Crazy Can we write on both sides of the paper? Do we have to use ink? May I go get my ink pen? What did you say our lesson was? Are our papers corrected? I had my paper written, but I can't find it. Can lborrow a pencil? I was busy last night and didn't have time to study. Can I go to my locker? T didn't get to read all my lesson. I don't have any paper. Why was my grade lowered this month? a4u,fo9 K ny? ' g 1, '.lI'l-f Uihlfllplpd I lvlll by 'll-IUOIII IIUYHKI luallna. lo.. ll. I.
