4, Jfwpizecg A class reun1on that 15 Just what we must have Merv1n Th1s was the typlcal solut1on to an 1dea of Kathleen Da1ly aone t1me graduate of R1dgev1lle H1 class of 1954 who was enter ta1n1ng 1n her New York penthouse two successful mus1c1ans then domg a tremendous number on Broadway They were none other than Dale Sche1dler and Mervm Femstem who after 1n dulgmg 1n sports for a wh1le after graduat1on had settled down to mus1c and between show engagements were v1s1t1ng Kathy A hel1copter the common method of transportat1on 1n the enhghtened year of 1966 was soon gl1d1ng toward a fash1onab1e suburb of Cleveland Oh1o known as North R1dgev11le of the R1dge Landmg 1n the parkway of the R1dgev11le H1gh School the hel1copter unloaded 1ts three occupants who were met by Elma Cool Sh1r1ey Ba11ey and D1ck Reyes Elma and Sh1rley were now glamorous hostesses 1n a well known N1te Club w1th the1r own local T V programs wh1le D1ck hav1ng graduated from College was managlng a group of ultra modern Motels west of Cleveland These s1x overjoyed classmates dec1ded to phone the class presldent Arlene Laubenthal and acqua1nt her w1th the reun1on plans Arlene at th1s t1me was the superv1s1ng nurse at the Fa1rv1ew Park hosp1tal w1th Evelyn Janas superv1s1ng the nursery at the same hosp1tal Soon both nurses desp1te the1r heavy dut1es were able to Jom the group for further reun1on plans A clever restaurant w1th good food near R1dgev1lle was just the place to make arrangements so lt was that e1ght classmates walked 1nto the D1nner R1ng a popular eat1ng house owned and operated by Jean Gaydash and Norma Sweet Jean and Norma welcomed the1r classmate guests w1th the1r accustomed fr1endl1ness and plans were soon well under way when Jean1e told the story of the startl1ng success of B111 Wmter who was mak1ng great strxdes 1n rel1g1on and mu s1c was marr1ed and was m1n1ster1ng to a famous church 1n Ch1CagO He would probably make the reun1on 1n true class sp1r1t and br1ng w1th hun Gary Kell1ng now on the personnel 11st of Navy maneuvers 1n Waukegan lll1no1s Gary had made the armed serv1ce h1s l1fe s work Whxle everyone was enjoymg the conversat1on m burst Pete Ohmes and Bob Sull1nger on the1r way from a meet1ng of agrxcultural experts held 1n Columbus Bob and Pete were successful gentlemen farmers own1ng huge ranches we st of the MISSISSIPP1 They told of hav1ng met Bob Fortune 1n Columbus Bob was an adv1sor on hunt1ng and sportxng methods and was wr1t1ng popular artlcles on these subjects Somehow news had traveled rapldly and soon Donna Stob1e now a happy Wlfe and the mother of a famous mov1e ch1ld walked 1nto the D1nner R1ng w1th M1ldred Heckerman and Annette Scheutzow both M1lly and Annette were pref1x1ng the1r names w1th Mrs and both 1nv1ted the1r classmates to come to the1r luxur1ous homes near Elyr1a for the remammg plans of the reun1on of Class 1954 The enthus1ast1c group was Just leav1ng when they stopped m sudden wonder Out of a hmousme stepped Gerry James and Pat Gallagher look1ng splendxd 1n the1r styl1sh dresses Both had heard the news ofareun1on and had sped 1n from Cleveland where Gerry had a dancxng school and Pat was an 1nstructor 1n dramat1cs and playwr1te work w1th some famous produc1ng company W1thout much d1scuss1on It was dec1ded to go to R1dgev1lle H1gh School and from there try to contact the rest ofthe class Wa1t1ng at the doors of R1dgev1lle H1 were Sh1r1ey Juchem asslstant math teacher of R1dgev1lle Kathy Bommer lady mayor of the town and George Gage the owner of a farm 1mplement store 1n the ne1ghbor1ng town of Beldon More enthusxastxc greet1ngs followed as Marge B1ngge11Jo1ned the group Marge was gym teacher and dr1ver s trammg teacher at Avon Lake Someone 1n the crowd suggested that a w1re be sent to Tom Jares 1n Terre Haute Ind1ana where he was manager of a refrlgerator plant and happ1ly marr1ed also to Bonme Shaffer who was mn Cahforn1a, a Major 1n the WACS sta t1oned along the coast As the group of schoolmates were preparmg to separate for the mght and meet the next day Mar1anne J afllk came 1n and 1nv1ted the out of town class guests to spend the n1ght at her fash1onab1e hotel near the 1ntersect1on of the Oh1o Turn P1ke and Route 10 It seemed that Mar11yn Schwertle and Peggy Goede would meet them there Mar1lyn was pr1 vate secretary and part manager of an automoblle firm near Norwalk wh1le Peggy Goede was part owner of an elete shoe store cater1ng only to the soc1al class of people and known as Shoes H1 Class Corporat1on The fo1low1ng day w1th f1nal plans about completed all but f1ve alumn1 of the class of 1954 were present and 1t was certam that they would soon be present In the classroom where Mr Curr1er was preservmg h1s famous h1stor1ca1 data on Rocket Sh1ps and Planet v1s1tat1ons the Class of 54 was enjoymg a h1lar1ous reun1on At the helght of the conversat1on the door opened and 1n walked Charlotte Myers dressed 1n the latest of gown creat1ons wh1ch she had des1gned Charlotte at once told of her hurr1ed fhght from Mlallll where she was then des1gn1ng exclus1ve beach wear for the season and conduct1ng a school of art and des1gn 1n clothes l.
