Ze lcation -.nsslvwnmg-,,,,,,.,...-W We, The Annual Staff of Ridgeville High School, dedicate this book to Miss Elizabeth Wilcox, our beloved superinten- dent and friend. Her untiring efforts towards the betterment of our school are known throughout school and community. Her willingness to help and advise each student will long be remembered by all. THF JIHII IIE ' X ,,' 'f'- 6,3 C N. ow? X f I It would require many times the space occupied by this volume to accurately portray a year of high school life in its many phases. We have tried, therefore, to select for this Annual such scenes as will call to mind remembrance of things past, and the many happy occasions and inci- dents of the school year. DOROTHY WATSON I am always content with what happens . G,A.A. 1,2,3,4. 9 G!c1.9.9 gflstory In September I944 a group of forty-sev- en fearful, frolicking, frisky freshmen hop- ped aboard the old model T ford which was to chug along on a four year educational journey. In our first year we selected Bob Obrin as our driver and leader. To assist in case he had difficulties. we chose Doreen Line , vice-pre sident, Marv Haas, secretary, Evelyn Stroud, treasurer, Joyce Sayers, student council, Dale Schroeder and Mar- gery Irons, social chairmen. Our biggest event of the year was the Freshman Party which we all managed to survive. The initi- ations , which included everything from roll- ing moth balls to washing feet, made us full-fledged members of Ridgeville High School. To our surprise, our old ford chugg- ed us through a very successful year. On the way, however, we lost Zane Brushaber to the Marines, and Marie Weber, Ray Zacharias, Delbert Witt, Luther Schwinn, Don Standen, and Bob Silvers. After filling our ford with gas and check- ing its tires, we all climbed aboard in the fall of '45 with anumber of additional pass- engers, namely, Eugene Berry, Janet Roosevelt, Maureen Brown, Ethel Kerley, Mona Lou Warner, Carol Leadenham, Bob Koenig, Alberta Marvin, Dale Wakefield and Lucille Hamley. With Pete Pszenitzki as our driver and John Kathe, vice-presi- dent, Margery Irons, secretary, Florence Kodysh, treasurer, Ben Janas, student council, Evelyn Stroud and Louis Finegan, social chairmen, we finished this year with a bang. Checking our list, we found we had lost Ethel Kerley and Eugene Berry. In September 1946 we again dusted out our ford and boarded it to continue our journey. As driver, we selected Jack Kathe, president, Bob Grega, vice-president, Mar- garet Krueger, secretary, Henry Dreger, treasurer, Devona Myers, student council, Evelyn Stroud and Ben Janas, social chair- men. Immediately we started thinking of ways to earn money to entertain the seniors at our annual Prom. Naturally our only source of income was selling magazines, but with our well-known gift of salesman- ship, we managed to make our quota. An- other important event of the year was selecting and receiving our class rings. Paul Bartok, Julianne Gutschmidt and Fred Powell joined us, while Don Bowman, Dale Schroeder, Jean Hahn, Pat Lengel, Carol Leadenham, Bob Koenig, Joyce Sayers, Rose Kazimir, Dale Wakefield and Jim Spirek left us. Happy but a little regretful we came to the last curve of ourjourney. For our final ride we chose Henry Dreger, president, Florence Kodysh, vice-president, Evelyn Stroud, secretary, Bob Obrin, treasurer, Devona Myers, student council, Mona Lou Warner and Pete Pszenitzkir, social chair- men, Although we lost one member of our class, Natalie Gusky, we gained a member when Zane Brushaber came back from the Marines to finishhis high school education. The first social event, of the year was the Freshman Party. Since the problem of rings was settled the previous year, the next important event was taking class pic- tures. This was accomplished with the help of Rudy Moc. Distinction Day brought many problems and arguments, but colors, motto, song, and flower were finally chosen. Finally after four years, came the night we had been striving for, Commencement. Wearing our caps and gowns we marched across the familiar gymnasium floor to the stage. Our school days had ended at last, and we were ready for our careers of to- morrow. Although the class of '48 will tra- vel far, happy memories of Ridgeville High will always linger in our hearts.
