The Panthers played the State Championship game with Chapel Hill in Hickory. Chapel Hill defeated Ridge- view 38-8. It was a hard-played game where good sportsmanship was displayed on both reams. Responsible for this great team of 1960 wa-s Coach Davis. Ridgeview Panthers re- ceived 5 trophies Northwestern, Western Championship, State Runnerups. Each boy of the football team was given individual football trophies from Hickory Sporting Goods. We the student body of Ridgeview High School are very proud of the team of 1960. The Captain and Co-captain was Richard Hodge and David Slacks who played in the Shrine Bowl game in Greensboro. The games were as follows: TEAMS SCORES Spindale 41-0 Wilkesboro 42-0 Belmont 20-0 Newton 44-0 Lenoir 48-0 Morganton 12-0 'Daomasville 44-O Kanapolis 22-0 Wadesboro 38-0 Shelby 2-0 Championship game 38-8 Chapel Hill Sportswrirer, Bessie Setzer -46- lr

The Panther football team slashed through regular season opposition undefeated, and lt was late ln the season when it was'first scored on. Only powerful Chapel Hill, the State champion, was s.ble'to stop the Panthers. No Ridgeview basketball team since 1955 has advanced to the State playoffs. Happy Plains High school of Taylorsville will play in the State Class A finals beginning here Friday. R. L. Vann of Ahosl-:ie drhpped the Panthers, 60-56, in the first round of the state AA basketball champion- ships. The Panther football team also -advanced to the state finals, only to.fall to a powerful Chapel Hill delegation. This was the first Ridgeview basketball team to earn a state championship berth since -1955. Riigivlew trailed, 30-18. at the inter Sion, and at one point, Ahoskie stretched its lead to 20 points. In the last period, the Panthers came alive and pulled ahead of Ahoskie with seconds remainl-ng. A stolen ball in the closing sec- onds of the game and two suc- cessful free throws robbed the Ridgeview team of its lead and its 'bid at the state title. Happy Plains of Taylorsville will play Little River of Bahama at 1:30 p. rn. Friday in the Class A semifinals. The winner of this clash will meet the winner of the Kings Mountain-Baden game for the championship. Panthers Tie For N'Western Championship STATESVILLE - Ridge- view's Panthers of Hickory tied Lenoir for the North- western Conference cham- pionship by virtue of o 58-27 victory over Stotesville here Thursday night.
