A. Dill- ard and Mrs. M. S. Mitchell, both of whom are ably assisted by Miss L. Y. Washington as accompanist in practices, is doing a type of Work of which the school is proud. The club fills engage- ments for the various Churches and organizations in Hickory. The school takes its greatest pride in its Glee Club from the fact that it is a training institution for the future members of the various Church choirs of the City. ' . rl iff 4 is . yi. is eff it tf bl al if yt tr fl W The Crown and Scepter Club IDGEVIEW feels that one of its most worthy organizations is its Chapter of the Crown and Scepter Club, the State-wide High School Honor Society. After all, the tax payers are supporting the schools as institutions in which the students may learn. The Crown and Scepter Club is to a certain extent an advance indication of the effectiveness of this learning. We use advance here because it is well known that some students learn more rapidly than others, and some more effectively than others. To become a member of the Crown and Scepter Club a student must maintain an average of ten per cent above the passing mark of the school in his Freshman and Sophomore years. Thus only Juniors and Seniors are eligible for membership in the Society. The Society motivates students to study earnestly during their first and second years in high school. It is well known that students who have laid good scho- lastic foundations in the first two years of their high school work have few or no difliculties in their Junior and Senior years. Ridgeview was represented at the Crown and Scepter Convention this Spring at St. Augustine's College in Raleigh by Ella Mae Jenkins, Lucy Curry, Ruby Flowers and James Abernethy.
