F-1 51 X51 5 I , ., ,f, fi The Hi-Y Clulo By RODDY JENKINS N 1929 Ridgeview High School realized the need for an organiza- tion to set standards of Christian Ideals in the school. The Hi-Y Club, which is the school division of the Y.lVI.C.A., was introduced and installed in the school by Mr. Witlierspoon of Hickory. He is the Director of Hi-Y Clubs for the States of North and South Carolina. Since 1929 the Club has made a very definite impression upon the lives of the boys who have attended Ridgeview High School. Member- ship in our club is limited to the boys of the Sophomore, Junior and Senior classes. We hold weekly meetings, in which we discuss Bible topics and current events. A few Weeks ago we entertained the mem- bers of the Girls Reserve at a special luncheon in the school Cafeteria. Uur club was represented at the 1940 Older Boys, Conference, which was held in Goldsboro, N. C., by Rossilee Killian, Theadore Powell and Eugene Hill. Our delegates gave us an excellent report from this Conference, the theme of which was HTHE LIFE THAT C0UNTS.,7 At these Conferences the boys listen to inspiring lectures from members of both races. E. Johnson of the faculty, has been making great progress through the years. The Ridgeview Chapter of the Girls Reserve was organized in 1934. The purpose of the club is to offer such training to girls as to help them to develop properly along mental, physical and spiritual lines. Some of the activities in which we have engaged are as follows: the giving of Thanksgiving baskets to the needy, sponsoring Valentine parties, presenting programs at the school assembly, and the present- ing of programs at the various Churches.
