I i The Ridgeview Debating Team By LUCY CURRY HE Ridgeview Debating Team, under the coaching of Miss E. E. Howze, of the faculty, is proud of its record. Our affirmative consists of Constance Shuford and Theadore Powell, our nega- tive of Lucy Curry and James Abernethy. ln 1940 our State Debating Westem District Triangle was com- posed of Oaklawn High School at Lincolnton, John Chavis High School of Cherryville, and Ridgeview High School of Hickory. Ridgeview won from John Chavis and Oaklawn. This gave us the highly desired honor of competing in the State finals at the Agricultural and Technical College at Greensboro. At the State Contest, we won from Wise Train- ing School and Leaksville. Only three schools out of twenty-five sur- vived to the finals, and Ridgeview was one of those.
