P. ll. S. isa small school. it has a big slate of clubs and organizations which help to make our school a line one in vvhich to receive an education. One of the Illrlisf important services rendered is that contributed by the Band. Under the direction of Xlr. Robert Austin. the musicians play during assemblies, and pep rallies. and at several special musical events during the year including the spring concert. Glamour is added to the Band by the Tvvirlers. This year's Xlaiorettc is Grace Redmond. The executive body of the GAJX. is the l.eader's Club. XYith .Xliss Demarest as their chief administrator and advisor, girls who are class captains or squad leaders discuss and plan sport programs for all high school girls. 'lihey set up standards which a girl must meet to qualify for a letter. Their vvork is indispensable. Another very important organization vv hose help is alxvays needed is that of the Technical Crevv. Mr. Arnold carefully instructs boys to operate the movie camera, lights in the auditorium and the ampli- fying system. These boys keep busy running educational lilms for various classes. To create, maintain and extend throughout the home, school and community, high standards of Christian character. That is the Tri' lli-Y's sole purpose. The l-li-Y is a boys' organization dedicated to service. The boys take turns serving as receptionists for visitors to the school. Their biggest project of the year is selling wreaths at Christmas time. Xlr. Wallace is their advisor. The Honor Society headed by Xlrs. Petris is made up of students who, through their scholastic standards. leadership and service, obtain entrance into the society. 'llie Sear- lets zoomed out of the League depths to win the state championship for Group Une, even though we played against Group lwo and 'lhree schools. School spirit was great this year, with more spectators coming out to see l arlt's startling comeback in the season of'5l1. XX'ith the cheerleaders and the student body encour- aging the team, Coach joeher's boys defeated six of their nine opponents, tied with two, lost to one-liacltensaek. Under the leadership of llanlt Sehoenfelder and Dan Schmaeling, we became the surprise team of the year. liven. though we lost several valuable players including Les johnson, and Dan Schmaeling, who was then made manager, we came very close to taking the league cham- pionship. October 1-1, 1950 is a day fans will never forget. lt was on that crisp, autumn afternoon that Ridgefield Park won over l,eonia, 7 - 6. a score that before had seemed impos- sible. Against players bigger and more experienced, against odds so incredible that even the most optimistic person had little hope, the enemy bowed to our might in an unbelievable victory. The team established a record this year that is a tribute to the school and an encouragement to succeeding teams. 1Vith such fine Veterans as llill Connolly and Richie Rohlfs the prospects for 1951 look good, NYC are earliest in our hope that nest season will be the finest in R.P.l 1.5. history. 'lihis may he why Ridgefield Park lligh School has a great liking for the game, and also the answer to why Park has usually had good teams. The success of this years team can be summed up as only fair. lt was a hard task for these hoys to follow in the footsteps of the teams Park has had in the past, yet they did their ioh on the court without complaint. 'lihe starting line-up consisted of two juniors and three seniors. .-Ks captain, Carl lfrei guided his fellow players through the season. lt was plain to see that the hoys knew how to take the losses as well as the wins. Not once did the squads lighting spirit falterg the anxiety to win was always evident. Frank Bell, the .-Xthletics Director, again coached the Searlets, and will he ready with a more expe- rienced squad when basketball season comes again. The Scarlet cagers' most thrilling game of the season was that with Tenally. 'l'he game had four overtime periods and the game ended with Bill Connolly netting the winning point.
