Mr. Wilbur Allison, our faculty ad- visor has helped to makes the Vic- tory Corps a success. Anything that the school is .do- ing to help the war effort comes under the direction of the Victory Corps. The officers are: Chairman, Bev- erly Koellerg Vice-chairman, Ioyce Lerner, Senior Class Representa- tive, lanet Montgomery: Iunior Class Representative, Katherine Gallig Sophomore Class Represent- ative, Howard DuBois: Freshmen Class Representative, Louise Watts. STUDENT ADVISORY BOARD Every Tuesday at noon, despite rain or snow, the S. A. B. is found in the library diligently discussing pressing mattersg much has been done to further an interest by the students in their school. At the beginning of the year committee heads were appointed. Paul Hanway head of the Calen- dar Committee has turned hisfef- forts toward preventing mix-ups in dates. Mildred Lindstrom took charge of the Poster Committee, Isabelle Megaw, the Assembly Committee, and Ioan Draffin has faithfully and carefully kept the board's scrap book. One of the most important jobs taken over by the S. A. B., with the assistance of the Hi-Y, was the managing of traffic in the halls. The officers are William Soine, President: Eileen Maher, Vice- president: Grace Tice, Treasurerg and Marianne Pascale, ,Secretaryg Mr. Shield, Advisory Mrs. Helen Hanna, Co-Advisor. SPANISH CLUB The Spanish Club was organ- ized in the late fall with the follow- ing officers: President, Adrienne Cherryg Vice-president, Robert Fen- wick: Secretary, Muriel Younglingg Treasurer, Vito Saiag S. A. B. Hep- resentative, Edna Borea, Alternate S. A. B. Representative, Alphonse Cannieg Advisor, Mrs. Helen Hanna. The chairmen of standing com- mittees are: Program, Robert Fen- wick, Social, Madelyn McKnight, Viola Colonnag Constitution, Doris Cledep Publicity, Sally Friedman. The club has a membership of about thirty active and enthusi- astic Spanish students. The mem- bership is limited to pupils who have successfully passed one year of Spanish. The purposes of the club are to promote fellowship among the Spanish students, to provide opportunity for conversa- tional Spanish and to increase our understanding of our Latin Ameri- can neighbors. ENGLISH CLUB The English Club, under the guidance of its faculty advisor, Mrs. Iepson, has, in a true spirit of preparation for the future in a nation at war, planned and Worked out enjoyable methods of practicing good English grammar and usages. This idea of a club not only for pleasure but also for business, is in step with the ambi- tions of our Seniors who are plan- ning careers in the service and success in business after victory. 'WW' HISTORY CLUB The History Club was just or- ganized this year, cmd has a very promising future. It is .open to all Iuniors taking United States His- tory. The purpose of this club is to develop good citizenship, to make worthy use of leisure time, and to develop our background in American history. FRENCH CLUB The French Club is a small or- ganization, with all ot its twenty members active on some commit- tee. The meetings are held in French tor the purpose of further- ing the conversational and corrg- prehensive powers ot its members. Virginia Strub sees that refresh- ments are provided: Carol Thwaites and her able assistants render sweet music, typical ot 'Tacgues Bonhommeuy Augusta Denlcer has charge ot the games, which stir up great excitement, and Gertrude Pinkham is the able chairman ot the play committee. It helps to create and maintain high stand- ards of character throughout the school and community. Its many activities of the year were high- lighted by its joint activities with the Tri-Hi-Y, and the participation of some of its members on the Hall Patrol. The officers are President, Paul Hanwayg Vice-president, George Marshallg Secretary, lack Tannery Treasurer, Milton Coleg Advisor, Mr. Averille. 1 1 TRI-Hi-Y The Tri-Hi-Y has a membership of thirty-one girls. Meetings are held twice a month on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month. This year, boxes have been sent to boys in the service. During Peb- ruary, six girls worked in the kitchen at Bergen Pines every Sat- urday. Many program meetings with guest speakers were held. Under the ex- pert guidance of Mr. Allison, the club enjoyed a trip to the Museum of Science and lndustry in New York City, and also did much ex- perimentation in blood analysis. The Technical Crew works also under the sponsorship of the Science Club. Robert Cyphers, S. A. B. Representative, Stephen Albertalli, Charles Davis, Alex Goudie and Oswald Weber set up and operate the sound equipment at assembly and dances, and act os general handy men for the S. A. B. IUNICDR RED CROSS The Iunior Bed Cross is organ- ized to carry on the work of the American Bed Cross in coopera- tion with other such groups throughout Bergen County. lts ac- tivities include those which aid in the War Effort. The girls in the club have worked on a magazine project and several other things under the guidance of Miss Russell. ln De- cember they held cr very success- ful Christmas party. This year the Girls' Athletic As- sociation, a long-standing club with one hundred forty members, ushered in the school year with several volleyball gamesg later they went swimming once a Week, and on Tuesday afternoons could be found laboring over various pieces of apparatus in the boys' gym. During the basketball sea- son, games between the four classes were the height of interest fthe luniors came out on topl. For several weeks Miss l-lenze taught social dancing to a group of girls: just now they are finding that old- fashioned square dancing is lots of fun. Two badminton tournaments are being launched, and plans for archery, owling, and softball. A faculty-student basketball game was sponsored on December 16: even standing room was sold out as everyone Watched the team beat the teachers, The girls held a Sadie Hawkins dance on lanu- ary 22. The officers are President, Car- olyn Coxg Vice-president, Dorothy Keltyg Secretary-Treasurer, Kay Leyden, and Advisor, Miss Henze. CHORUS One of the foremost organiza- tion of the school is the Chorus, which is under the direction of Mr. Cross. There were sixty members in the club this year. This body of the Music Department entertained us several times during Assembly. They had a large part in the Minstral, presented for the benefit of the Red Cross. This production WCIS G SUCCESS because of the COYY1- bmed efforts of the three branches of the Music Department. BAND The Band, this year as always, has boosted the students' school spirit at football games, when the scarlet boys were all trying to win another victory. This year the band was composed of twenty-six members. ln addition to playing ot the football games and assembly, they made a fine showing at the Red Cross Benefit. Mary Gilligan acted as drum majorette. Mr. Cross is the Director. ORCHESTRA Although the orchestra Was small this year, it was a credit to Mr. Cross. This musical organiza- tion has kept up the same high standards ot musicianship of pre- vious years in spite of the fact that it had a membership ot only six- teen. The Orchestra made a fine showing at our Red Cross Benefit this year. Besides playing at as- sembly prograrns, the Orchestra played at Bacculaureate and Com- mencement Exercises.
