LJ 4 M K Sincerely, THE STAFF will DEDICATIO We dedicate this, the 1960 Oralue, to Mr. Harry Coffman Haskell, head custodian, in recognition and appreciation of his long service to Ridgefield High School. He was born in Chehalis, Washington, Novem- ber 2, 4 1896. His formal education ended at the age of twelve, when he began work in a Chehalis mill. He served in the army for two years which took him over seas to France, Germany, and England during World War I. After being discharged, he worked as a truck driver in Vancouver until com- ing to Ridgefield in 1950. In the past nine years at Ridgefield High, he has shown friendship and interest toward all students. Mr. Haskell is a loyal supparter of the Spuddcrs, often going out of his way to help students with extra- curricular activities. Often a student's lagging spirits are lifted by Mr. Haskell's Hi ya Kiddo! What's the matter? To get away from his pet peeve, messy floors, Mr. Haskell goes horseback riding. We sincerely hope that his future years here will be as pleasant for him as his past years have been for us. M if 'i l i l i if l ll i l l ii 1: l , i l 2 -.Mrk HARRY C. This Ihad to see, and having nothing better to do on my vacation from being an Airline Stewardess, I made arrangements to go home at once. On arrival I couldn't believe my eyes, millions of people all round and there on a platform greeting the crowds to his fair city was Mayor Willie Hall, and also on the platform were the city officials, Chief of Police, Chris Swindell, with a ten gallon Stetson on, and Fire Chief Lee Walker, who was calmly lighting matches one after the other. As I drove on I noticed an exhibition of strength and skill going on. Donna Larer and Gloria Larson were wrestling, it seems, for the lightweight championship, and their managers, dressed in mink and silk, were Patsy Holloway and Gloria Hegge. Very prosperous in- deed! As we proceeded down the Avenue we suddenly swerved and smashed into a big black Cadillac. The chauffeur immediately jumped out, he turned out to be Lyle Talbott, and all of a sudden a trumpet started blowing and out stepped Harold Patee, who was the renowned jazz musician. It seems he was just home from his trip as Good Will Ambassador to Mars. Just then I saw Kathy Richards and Joyce Oldham, who were just back from deep dark Africa where they were the assistants of the famous big game hunter, Art Sutton. It was just time for the 20 mile dash on the event field so I hurried over and there in the starting line-up was Mike Furno, who had broken the world's record playing leap frogg with real frogs. After all the excitement, I was getting hungry so I went over to one of the refreshment stands and there Gladys Anderson and Laura Washburn were holding a thriving business selling the world's largest hot dogs. Then with a full stomach I wandered over to the tennis stadium where the world's championship Women's Singles were being held. I saw a red flash and then a black one, and there were Carolyn Kaufman and Teresa Medina playing fast and furiously. As I turned to leave I bumped into a lady dressed in white. It turned out to be Kathlene Hawkins, famous lady chemist, and on a leash was her human guinea pig, Bob Zimmerly. I proceeded to the International Beauty Show. As I watched out walked Linda Koetbe, who was the runner-up for Miss World, dressed in a leopard skin dress. Just then I heard a lot of confusion and noise. I hurried outside and the President of the United States and his private secretary had just ar- frived. I was flabbergasted when they turned out to be Ken Harris and Kay Hardt. Following behind them came the Vice-President and his Prophecy secretary, who were Bill Matney and Jean Hill. I got out of the bowing and saluting and cheering and proceeded to a talent show to rest my weary feet. On the stage appeared Gail Osborne and Tim Kasper who had an incredible sword swallowing act. It seems they are married. Then came the feature attraction, the new 3 Stooges, Steve Tworek, Jerome Bakshas, and Glen Engelking. They were even better than the originals. After the show I decided to Wander through the much changed city of Ridgefield. As I walked past the huge new high school I heard crying and wailing going on inside. It was the class of '61, It seems they've had some trouble at trying to graduate. The principal stood on guard outside. Upon looking closer, he turned out to be Oliver Kessinger. As I walked on, I came to a huge diamond factory, and the owners, Gary Lehner and Charlie Gretsch were standing over the workers with whips. Since the noise was unbearable I walked on to an exclusive dress shop owned by Sue Garrison and Pat Cross, They had just gotten back from a fashion stealing trip from Paris. Right next door was another shop. It seems they sold foundation garments to ladies so they could wear the dresses next door. The owners turned out to be Charline Dees, Jean Burk, and Carol Hixson. I noticed a Sporting Goods Store down the street, and upon entering I discovered it was exclusively wrestling equipment, signed by none other than the World's champion, Larry Steen. I rang the bell and Buddy Powell, the proprietor, came out. I asked him what was new in the sports business. I was shocked to learn that Billy Griffith had finally been admitted on the Harlem Globetrotters Team. I hurried on to the Ridgefield Epitaph Newspaper office. I was greeted by the Editor, Myrna Mills. She offered to take me out to dinner that night. It seems the great torch singer Joanne Reed was featured at the Country Kitchen. Just then the president of the bank drove by with his chauffeur Randy Chapman and secretary. Ron Nickels and Norma Snoen must have finally struck it rich. Simultaneously, Alan Schurman, Dwight Shetler, and Ken Stovener drove by. Myrna informed me they had the biggest dairy farm in the World now. Having put in a very full day I decided to say farewell to the City of Ridgefield and leave. As I was leaving I noticed a statue of Evelyn Pierre, World's Greatest Stunt Flyer. I came to two diligent street cleaners, busily sweeping the streets of their fair city. It so happens they were Bob Hallstrom and Tony Biendichio. As I left the city limits I thought to myself, The Class of GO has surely lived up to its reputation of being the best class to graduate from old Ridgefield High School. Excelsior Class Wills We, the Senior Class of 1960, being of ex- cellent sound mind and body do hereby leave the following, as we feel the 'luck heirs' sin- cerely need it: We, the Senior Class, will to the Junior Class everything we have since they have nothing and desperately need it all. We, the Senior Class, will to the Sophomore Class the ability to run the school after we leave, since we feel they'll do a better job than any other class, providing they aren't all 'expelled' by then. We, the Senior Class, will to the Freshman Class nothing as they are the most conceited class and for no reason. I, Gladys Anderson, will my ability to get Mr. Gordon mad at me to Ruth Fry. I, Jerome Bakshus, will my worn out rear motorcycle tire to Eddie Strunk. I, Tony Biendicho, will my ability to make Mr Burridge believe the theory of square bubbles to anyone in next year's Physics Class. I, Jean Burk, will my ability to get along with Mrs. Andrews to Ricky Alsleben. I, Randy Chapman, will my ability to get out of class to anybody who needs it. I, Pat Cross, will my excellent sewing abili- ty to Karen Stovner. I, Charline Dees, will my willingness to yell at the ball-games to the future cheerleaders I, Glen Engelking, will my beard to Ronnie Wilson. I, John Farthing, will my ability of trying to get A's in Senior Social Studies to Judy F rewing. I, Mike Furno, will my track shoes to any undeserving Junior. l, Sue Garrison, will my scrambled Senior Social Studies notes to any mixed-up Junior. l, Charles Gretsch, will my bottle of tran- quilizer pills to Mr. Diebel. I Bill Griffith, will my athletic ability to Arthur Pearson. Willie Hall, will my clothes and title of Best Dressed to Hugh Potter. President, WILLIE HALL Veep, CHARLES GRETSCH l ,gf 1 The Student Council consists of the club and class presidents or representatives. The main objective of 1959 and 1960 was to improve school interest. In doing this they took the different problems of school life and tried to find a solution. The Student Council sponsored Carnival was a great success and helped to finish payment of the new football lights, and start a fund for new Bleachers. They also raised the money to support a S200 scholarship. ,. 951' f-A 1 Secretary, JUDY HOLMBERG Treasurer, NORMA SNOEN ,. , M if H ,,,. Top row: B. Milliano, M. Austin, G. Heggc, E. Pierre, C. Fond memories of your experience at Ridgefield High will be a part of your future life. During the past four years many of the basic foundations for your adult life have become a part of your personality. Now, you are beginning to realize it's time to try your wings, now is the time to put into practice your ideas and ideals. Remember when you leave these halls the good wishes of your parents, friends, teachers and people you never knew, go with you. When you look back on your efforts here no doubt you will say, I could have done better , or Why wasn't I made to work and study harder . Next year, in whatever activity you find yourself give of your best, you'll come out on top. Again, Congratulations The Seniors of 1960. Best Wishes for a Happy and Successful Life. Sincerely, Superintendent W, LYNDLE MOORE and Secretary LORENE BRYAN W. LYNDLE MOORE, Superintendent Principal DONALD K. GORDON and Secretary LARENE WRAY As graduating seniors you are in the process of making one of the major adjustments of your life. After the thrill and pride of graduation night have passed, you will be facing to a much more marked degree than ever before, the problem of standing alone. A free public education has been yours for the asking. What you have made of it and what further education you receive may well determine your status in life. There are class lines in our society, but they are flexible, and the vehicle for crossing them is education and training. I congratulate you upon the successful completion of one major step in your progress. I join with you in your anticipation of reaching the goals of your adulthood and I join with you in looking forward to the near future when you will be given the full realization of the duties, responsibilities, and dignity of American Citizenship.
