Presenting Clic' Zflzirly-Ninth Omlue vf kidgcficld Hgh Selma! 1959 Horeward The past school year has been colorfully displayed through the many diverse activities and student participation events. A fine majority of these experiences were considered in designing the 1959 Oralue. Dear Re ade rg There are sixteen additional pages in this, the thirty-ninth annual. This brings the total number to eighty-eight pages, which comprise many views of Ridgefield High School. A central theme was not included in the plans for the annual this year as we felt it would limit our scope in creative capacity. Concentration was empha- sized upon presenting you, the reader, a quite new and unexpected picture lay- out for each consecutive page. Our approach was for the more sophisticated binding of the year's remembrances. Leroy Yann, will my senior social studies report on Latin America to anyone who wants it. Dave York, will my English book to any fool that wants it. Ralph Zimmerly, will my ability to stand up under henpecking to any boy on next year's staff. ARLENE WELLS BREWER ,165 frvphecy by Frank Krieger As I glanced through Gibb's History of Ridgefield the other night, I chanced to note several names that reminded me of my old high school days at Ridgefield. Immediately I noted the article which pro- claimed that Gary Anderson, the famous weatherman, had succeeded in controlling a typhoon over Hawaii, saving the lives of many people, among them Jim Stephens and Joyce Worthington. It seems that Jim had finally received a deserving promotion--that of head carry-out boy--and Joyce had consented to marry the successful businessman, to which Jim had replied, Shaft! Alvin Peterson, the World War X hero was back in Washington and there was much spec- ulation as to whether he would marry the head of the F. B. I, , Audrey Lopez. Crowds were battling their way into the main tent of Wi1son's Circus to see Jerry Bemis and his newest collection of butterflies. Bob Brewer, the famous cotton candy salesman, and his secretary Ron Kampe, had left the circus and joined Flash's Space Cadets, headed by Bill Combs. Ralph Zimmerly, star reporter for the Daily Planet, had attacked the Teamsters President, Arlene Wells, for associating with Walt Royle, the notorious safecracker. A rock-n-roll riot occurred at the Fox Theater Qwhere Bob Lickar is employed as a projector many after the first run of Leroy Yann's latest picture, Dragstrip Gal , starring DaRene Funk. Turning the page, I read that Judy Burrow, Vicki Berstrom, and Lillian Rose, promising MGM starlets, are in competition for the lead in Latricia Rathbun's latest horror show, The Ghoul of My Dreams. Dave Moore, the mad scientist, attempted to destroy the world but was stopped by Tom Eversaul, a professional wrestler. Joe Rasmussen, the new Tarzan, was be- ing taught the use of the slingshot and other useful information, by Gene Roberts, private tutor to all Tarzans. Larry Randolph, the millionaire playboy, and his valet, Dave York, were censored by Don Nedrow's Broadway column appearing in the Spuddarian. Rex Humbert and Larry Bryan, eminent P. H, D. 's from Sara Tech, agreed with phil- osopher Dan Stith that the world would be annihilated if we risked World War XI. JoAnn Beauvais, owner of a line of garbage scows on the Columbia, sued Donna Hancock and Karen Johnson for sinking her scows with their speedboats. Larry Schave, the famous connoisseur of fine wines, agreed that Bartel Wineries Inc. made the best grape wine in the world. Tom Adams, a multi-millionaire Wall Street Financier, bought several shares in Ken Anderson's cabinet shop. Under a large, dark picture of Ridgefield's football field, I read that Jerry McGuire, now manager of the Rams, said Ralph James was the most promising halfback since Ken Bryant. Jackie Benedict and Norma Hegge, inter- nationally famed make-up artists, prepared Sandra Jones for her opening night at the Sara Fair. Linda Roth is a top TV personality. Her Salem Cigarette commercials are never missed. Curtis Osborne and Dick Pearson, professional gamblers hired by the Maverick series, were imprisoned by Don Wells Ridge- field Town Marshall, on charges of dishonesty. Lucy Perry, in a fiery speech directed at President Graham, pointed out corruption in the government and ordered impeachment of President's Assistant, Marlene Schimelpfenig. Jim Scott is doing well in his new job as speech teacher at Sara Tech. Nancy McIntosh, employed as organ grinder, has annotmced her secret love, Bob Combs, hopes to get a job as janitor at Ridgefield. Peggy Heasley made a fortune selling peanuts at the Follies-Ber'gere which is starring Billie Jean Bone, Delores Edinger and Kay Warren. Barbara and Linda Pittman are owners of a Paris house of design. They have just decreed the new style line--the Bean Bag Look. Also in the field of fashion, George Hoffman is quite creative in the millinery line. The last item in the best selling book con- cerned Frank Krieger. It seems that he is publishing a book and it is rumored that it is on the Peyton Place line. After finishing the book, I came to the conclusion that no class has been or will be as successful as the great Class of '59. These principles are the cornerstones of our democracy and of individual success. As you leave Ridgefield High School, you face a dual responsibility: you must solve your problems, and those created by the blunders of past generations. No other generation is as well prepared for this task as you. I am confident of your success. Our age has brought with it not only increased responsibilities, but increased opportunities as well. The frontiers of science and of human relationships offer untold opportunities to those prepared to accept their challenge. Sincerely yours, DONALD K. GORDON Principal Congratulations to the graduating seniors of the Class of 1959. You are off the side roads and have earned the privilege of using one of the highways of Life. It is my sincere wish that the roadways ahead will lead you to the goals of life we all aspire to achieve. One of the most difficult of problems you will have to cope with in the future is your ability to live happily with your fellow men. Today, as never before, your success and happiness depends on this personality trait. You may not be master of your daily work, but at least you can be master of the spirit in which you do it. Be true to your word, your work, and your friends. The only per- son in the world who can make anything out of you is yourself. Every day of your life, if you are to be strong, will have its obligations, penalties, rewards and satisfactions. Sincerely, W.
