“BULLDOG ” DEDICATION TO DEE WEIR TUl I'JW-lflM Bulldog yearbook it dedicated to Drt Weir. Dee wi born and reared in Ridge Farm She was a Ridge Farm cheerleader in grade school and high school Dee firvt received her training by cooking in restaurants This taught her how to prepare foods in targe amounts which was crucial to her success as a school cook Dee s next job was cooking for the school While working for the school. Dee went to cooking school She attended two summers in Champaign, one summer in Charleston Carbondaie. and Dekalb Dee started at the grade school with Dorothy loop and after four years began cooking for the high school The lunch program was not well established so the townspeople helped by building tables, having dinners to raise money, and donating kitchen items While cooking for the school district, inspectors from 'springheld and Washington. DC often came to inspect Dee's kitchen Dee also had supervisors to watch over her Ruth Jenner was the most dear supervisor she had Bv being a good friend. Ruth pushed her and made her the cook that she is today Mr Weller and Jim Ellis were also a great help Dee not only loved her work, but also the kids She always looked for good in each student Dee often took food requests from the kids first and the teachers second Dee showed the kids how well she liked them by trying to explain the governmental requirements and prices of the food to teach them about the lunch program and its importance to the school Dee loved to cook fried chicken mashed potatoes, gravy, crary cake, and yeast donuts which were some of the kids favorites too Not only did Dee cook, but she also was a supervisor of cooks from the Edgar county-lllinois line and to the Champaign and Chicago county lines. She enioyed this Job as well But Dee s job like all other good things, must come to an end Dee has plenty of free time since she retired, which she uses to get rid of accumulated items, to bowl, and to read Dee said the hardest thing for me to do was quit cooking at the school She often sets her clock at o00 am each morning out of habit Dee you II be missed Interviewed by Carrie Harvey Written by Lisa Spesard Dee Supported And Loved Us Through 38 Years Of “Good Cooking”
