It was a fine day for a parade and booths up- town. There were many entries in the parade, but there weren’t as many booths as last year. The Booster Club received 1st place in the float competition. The flat competition results are as fol- lows: first: freshmen; second: Seniors; third: Juniors. The win- dow competition results are as follows: first: Juniors; second: Sophomores; third: Seniors; fourth: Freshmen. Freshman attendants were Joni Latoz and Steve Spesard 14 “ONLY TIME WILL TELL” Senior Parent Day ■■■■■■■■ 1 ( w til HOUHBI 1 The football season started out different this year because of a new state ruling: No pads were allowed for the first 3 days. This allowed more conditioning work before hitting and may have saved us some injuries We started the season with 34 players and ended up with 33 The first few games our offense had trouble generating points, but at the end of the season our defense and offense had come of age1 Our seniors, led by co-captains Glen Stahl and Cliff Beard, took charge in the later games We will greatly miss them next year Out of the 76 points we scored this year. Sam Blakeney scored 58 of them It was fun to watch him run Coach Kevin Tate Our seniors: Glen, Cliff, Sam, Kent, Brent, Jerry, Neal and Jason will leave knowing that they have contributed very much to our pro- gram, and with the hope that those follow- ing them will carry on that good attitude. Top: Mr. Albin, Coach. 24 ■ A REAR VIEW OF HARRISON GRADE SCHOOL located east of Ridge Farm which houses Kindergarten through 2nd grades will no longer be used, following a decision by Ridge Farm's School Board to close the facility. The building was originally used as a rural school for grades one through eight with Its own athletic department known as the Harrison Hornets. Because of the budget deficit In the Ridge Farm School District, the building will now stand empty. The Harrison Elementary School will be closed at the end of the 1983 school year. The old school has been standing for over 70 years, from 19131983. Although the school board de- cided to close Harrison, some parents still prefer their children to attend. The home-like envi- ronment. We are all saddened to see the old school close, but those of us who attended still have the old memories. First row i Shawn The Jr. Varsity team made some great steps toward re- spectability this year Moving from a 1 16 record In 1981- 82 to a 10-7 record 82-83. The team was made up of Freshman and Sophomores which shows great promise for the future! Summer Chnk Award for Excellence, and Cheering skills, stunts, pyramids and rumbling Under the direction of Mrs Conner, this year's cheerleaders performed some new things here at RFHS One of these was the Flash light routine to Only Time Will Tell at the bonfire the night before Homecoming Another new protect the cheerleaders thought of was giving a spirit award to some students from each class During the last pep session these students were called down with the cheerleaders to help the cheerleaders lead their fellow classmates in the good oT Funky Chicken cheer That was enjoyed by all All through the school year the cheerleaders had money making projects, one of which was selling bumper-stkkers that read I The Bulldogs Spirit is shown all over Ridge Farm by these stkkers GOOD JOB cheerleaders' 1982-1983 L-R top Laura Georges. Laura Georges freshman The team had a very good aggressive defence, they de veloped good rebounding The shooting and free throws percentages could use Im- provement, they will work on it next year The girls worked harder in the games than they did during their practices The team needs more crowd support for the up coming school year! The only team member we will lose is Stacy Jackson, our only senior on the team. Next year looks promising Looks good for the next 2-3 years for the J.V We have alot of good up coming freshman girls coming in I am real proud of the girls and all of their efforts to make this a good year. The greatest success came from the livestock team. The Team went to four contest's and placed high in 3 out of 4 contests. They placed 2nd. 5th, and 2nd in those contests. Next the basketball team did well receiv- ing a 1st and 4th placed in the the tourni- ment which they played in. The FFA held another successful year on barn yard nur- sery day. Thanks should go out to the peo- ple who helped to provide all the animals. The dance was another event that was en- joyed by all who attended it. Mid placed 1M In the laagua on the basis of the total record after 21 rounds of play Ridge Farm won the Varsity divi- sion of the Jerry Dyer Memorial Vermilion County Tournament and had high hope going Mo the stata tournament At the stata tournament the team had a record of 3 wins and a draw in 6 rounds of play to place 7th among 23 teams, which is a significant achievement The varsity record for the season was 21 wins. 4 draws, and 4 losses for a 79% winning percentage Ridge Farm outscored their opponents 20 to 82 and Individuals won 30 ribbons In the laagua for out stand log play The players who made this possible include JerTy Elh . Brant was the varsity player with the highest winning percentage Jim Ingalsbe won 6 of 6 game In the Mat team tournament Cliff Beard and Jim Ingalsbe tied for few M loaaes and Jo gamed a lot of varsity experience hi ling tn when other could not attend The varsity II teams also had much success They placed 5th of 10 teams tn the Roanoke-Benson Tour nament They also won hrM place tn the East Central nhnois Chess League and the Jerry Dyer Memorial Vermilion County Tournament In addition they placed 2nd m the tUtnots Invitational Fresh-Soph Tour nament held at Lincoln Way High School The final record of the Varsity 11 teams was 26 wins. 8 draws, and 9 losses for a 70% winning percentage They outscored then opponents 234 to 116 and won 48 ribbons for outstanding play In the league Individuals such as Jim Skinner. Bob Whittaker. Joe Ingalsbe. Kerne Markle Courtney Col . Jeff Woodard and Butch Vice led the way for much of the success achieved but other players such as Steve Valangeon. David Stanton, and Huy Vuong had a significant num ber of wins Those who did not letter at leaM improved their skills and should be stronger next year These included Troy Pearson. Troy Johnson. Greg EBery. Jeff Michael. David White. Theresa Brewer. Scott Meeker, and Mike Francis 47 “Jr. Varsity” This year was the first formal season of the Scholastic Bowl team for Ridge Farm. We’ve met with six dif- ferent schools this year. They are: Oakwood, Bismark-Henning, Shi- loh, Chrisman, Argenta Orenta, St. Joe-Ogden. “varsity” Teachers and Stu- dents make up the questions that were used for practice and meets. The questions came from all academic and elective area. Any student with learning potential and enthu- Siam may participate in Scholastic Bowl. ■•JETS The following students par ticipated in the Jets testing on Feb 22. 1983. in Danville Their academic records and test taking ability allowed them to represent our school in a 12 school competition. Chemistry and Physics. ■ Th« Ridgatarm National Honor Society la a group of stu- • that hav« reached a grade point average of 4 0 or better, on a S 0 grading average The tfudents have been at RHS for at lean one aemeater. and are member of the Junior and Senior Qaaa The basis on which a student Is chosen for membership m the NHS is service, leadership, and character The election of members Into the NHS is by a majority of vote of the faculty, with never less than half of the staff present [hiring this school year, the N H S had it's first dance m the old gym which took place January 14. 1983 The entertainment for the dance was Kevin Latoa, who played records and was the Disc Jockey Toward the end of the school year, students from grades 10-12. who reach the goal of 4 0 or better wil be elected for initiation mto the N H S The ultimate goal of the N H S is to stimulate a desire to lead service, create an enthusiasm for schoiorships, to promote worth leadership, and to encourage the development of charac ter in students at RH S' The student council is a collection of stu- dents from all four grades. These students are elected by their class mates. The stu- dent council’s job is to try and make the deci- sions that are best for the student body. They put on the spring and Homecoming dance's for the student body. They are also the one’s to supply the Christmas Movie! This year the High School once again had a Marching Band, the first in four years. We have also increased the size of the band by 10% We have been busy performing at the basketball games. Vermillion County Tournament, and Pop Spring Concert Several people went to solo, ensemble contest, and the county band festival SO Unit Chorus and General Music v: 1 Chorus this year was filled with several different types of activities. The season started with a sacred concert In October, followed by a Christmas concert in December Starting in January they prepared for solo and ensemble contests and also the Vermillion County music festival in March. The girls won the “Class B County” by scoring a total of 24 points. Debbie Rogers was a Double event winner” in the shot put and discus throw. The Fresh-Soph girls finished second in the conference. Kelley Acord won four events and Joni Latoz won the 1600 meter run. Additional girls would make next years team even stronger!! The boys track season was slowed by injuries. The team consisted of Sam Blakeney, Tim Woodard, Chris Martin, Mark Tucker, Brian Rogers, Mike Francis, Lee Dixon, Troy Pearson, and Jeff Woodard. The entire setting of the show took place in Arnold's restaurant The story line: Two business women (The Appleton sisters) plan to turn Al's place into a boutique as soon as his lease (which is already expired) is up. The Fonz and the rest of the gang try to figure out a way to save Al’s from be- coming a dress shop. During the midst of this fiasco. Ralph falls in love, the girls have a fight with the guys. Ralph and Potsie go undercover as a couple of hoods. Fonzie picks up another chic, and A1 discovers that one of the business women is his long lost love. The teams Ridge Farm spelled against were Georgetown (103 words), Jamaica (102 words), St. Mary’s (97 words), and Westville (96 words). Our team mem- bers were Amy Binkley, Kim Shelton, Heather Rumple, Nicole Stickler. Alternates were Lee Ann Brackney and Carmen Myer.
