CLASS HISTORY In our pre-school days it seemed that the day would never arrive when We could start to school. Finally in 1938 we got to start, with half the class crying for their mamas before the day was over. With the help of our kind teacher, Miss Furr, we managed to get through the first grade. We entered the second grade thinking we knew everything, but when Mrs. Linker gave us our books we found out we didn't. In the third grade we were divided into two groups. Miss Eudy and Miss Hinson were the teachers. The pupils in Miss Hinson's room learned to be careful about correct Englsh by having to sit on the dunce stool if they spoke incorrectly. Miss Eudy's group had their difficulties also. Sometimes we would knock our little chairs over and have to sit on the floor for a while to teach us to be more careful. In the fourth grade we received our geography books with much joy, because we liked big books, and felt very important carrying them. Miss Smith was our teacher that year. The fifth grade was a very romantic year for us. We began to write love notes to each other. Our teacher, Miss Smith, who was promoted with us, had a hard time trying to keep our minds on books. With the sixth grade we had finished half of our schooling and thought we were practically grown. Miss Barber must have had her hands full with all of us grown-ups. As seventh graders the girls had started using lipstick, usually having it smeared all over our faces. Mr. Jenkins was our teacher and he believed in his students being quiet. He had a job contending with our exuberant spirits. We entered the eighth grade feeling very proud because we got to change classes. Our teacher was Miss Lambert. Finally in the year of 1946 we entered high school with twenty-six pupils. We lost Edward Whitley and Billie Lambert that year. Our teach- ers were Mr. Barnhardt, Mrs. Spencer, and Mrs. Lilly. We had several plays during the year. We entered the tenth grade with two new teachers-Mr. W. F. Daniels and Mr. L. W. Byrum, principal. , We had several movie parties this year. The high school went to see Gone With the Wind at the Paula Theatre in Mt. Pleasant. We lost Irene Lambert, Minnie Jane Williams, Inez Clark, Julia Mae Hatley, Trullie Furr, Rosalene Burris, Spencer Harwood, and Virgil Lambert, Jr. We gained Kenneth Efird and Tommy Whitley. The most exciting events of our Junior year were our Junior and Senior trip to Asheville and receiving our class rings. We had several class parties this year. Mr. Brooks Jerome came to fill a vacancy the latter half of the year. We lost two pupils this year-Kenneth Efird and Jewell Whitley. We gained two pupils, Juanita Smith and Jack Laxton, who came to us from Oakboro and Bethel respectively. On July 25, 1949 we entered our Senior year with sixteen happy Seniors. We had a new principal and a new high school teacher, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Dry. We enjoyed a weiner roast at Love's Old Mill and a wild hayride afterwards on the night of September 27, 1949. On December 21, the grademothers gave the Juniors and Seniors a Christmas party at Morgan's Cabin. We had great fun eating and danc- ing. Each student received a souvenir. - ---S-ai' H - 'Wit
