N. Lilly, their former' home-room teacher at Ridgecrest, for a class reunion. petty Jean Almond was the first to arrive. We weren't very much sur- prised to find she was now operating one of the best beauty shoppes in the state at Five Points. Frances Almond came in looking very happy. She invited us all to her wedding, which was to be the next week. She said it had taken her almost five years to decide where to have the wedding, although she still planned on marrying her high school boy friend. We were all surprised to find that Jack Tucker, the cutest boy n our class, was now an outstanding lawyer in Lambert. Virginia Tucker came in wearing a very fashionable outfit. She said she was now a secretary and had a very handsome boss. We hope she doesn't have as many worries over her masculine friends as she did in high school. Kathleen Paige reminded us to tune in and hear her on her radio pro- gram next day. She answers all questions sent to her on love and happil- ness. Ed Smith and his pretty little wife were the next to arrive. He said he was now the owner of a popular service station in Locust. His wife looked rather jealous, but I guess she remembered he was chosen the sweetest boy in our clasls. Jackie Hatley and her husband came in looking very much in love. They are now living in a five room house on Rocky Grove farm in South Mission. We hope she uses her rolling pin more for baking than she does on her husband's head. Ruth Almond was the next to arrive. She had on a very stylish outfit and 'looked very lovely. It seems she has made a great success as a model in New York. She is wearing a beautiful diamond, and I believe the lucky guy is that secret admirer who used to send her prsents. Carrie Huneycuttt gave us one of her sweetest smiles as she came in, wearing her pretty nurses' uniform. She is now head nurse at the Cabar- rus Hospital. It seems Gerald Freeman is known as a famous doctor. I'll bet he's begun to think seriously of that pretty blond-headed nurse. Hazel Furr said she was a baby sitter for her sister's children in Albe- marle. The reason for that might be because of that good looking boy who lives next door and frequently comes over to sit with her. Everyone laugh ed when Tommy Whitley said he had a good steady job as pie-taster in the Frog Pond bakery. If you buy a pie and find it has been nibbled, you will know whom to see. Thelma Harwood is back from Reno where she has received her second divorce. It seems she has met another handsome man. We were all happy to hear that Jack Laxton is now the manager of a famous hillbilly band. Mildred Smith was bubbling over with praise for the girls' basketball team at Ridgecrest, which she has been coaching for several years. They haven't lost a game in three years. Juanita Smith was the last to arrive at our reunion. She said she was working in a do-nut shop which her fiance owns. Of course the reason he hired her was to find out if she could cook, but we hope he loves her anyway. Sweetest Juanita and Edward Most Popular Mildred and Jack T. I, Frances Almond, do will and bequeath my old bottle of tom Bomb Perfume to Jewell Almond and hope its fragrance will be a knock-out on her Saturday night dates. I, Tommy Whitley, do will and bequeath my ability to play basketball to Charles Branch in order that the team may have a successful season next year. I, Thelma Harwood, do will and bequeath my reputation as the biggest giggler to Patsy Almond. UA Testator, Jackie Hatley Witnesses, Mrs. J. N. Lilly, J. M. Dry . im, CLASS HISTORY In our pre-school days it seemed that the day would never arrive when We could start to school. Finally in 1938 we got to start, with half the class crying for their mamas before the day was over. With the help of our kind teacher, Miss Furr, we managed to get through the first grade. We entered the second grade thinking we knew everything, but when Mrs. Linker gave us our books we found out we didn't. In the third grade we were divided into two groups. Miss Eudy and Miss Hinson were the teachers. The pupils in Miss Hinson's room learned to be careful about correct Englsh by having to sit on the dunce stool if they spoke incorrectly. Miss Eudy's group had their difficulties also. Sometimes we would knock our little chairs over and have to sit on the floor for a while to teach us to be more careful. In the fourth grade we received our geography books with much joy, because we liked big books, and felt very important carrying them. Miss Smith was our teacher that year. The fifth grade was a very romantic year for us. We began to write love notes to each other. Our teacher, Miss Smith, who was promoted with us, had a hard time trying to keep our minds on books. With the sixth grade we had finished half of our schooling and thought we were practically grown. Miss Barber must have had her hands full with all of us grown-ups. As seventh graders the girls had started using lipstick, usually having it smeared all over our faces. Mr. Jenkins was our teacher and he believed in his students being quiet. He had a job contending with our exuberant spirits. We entered the eighth grade feeling very proud because we got to change classes. Our teacher was Miss Lambert. Finally in the year of 1946 we entered high school with twenty-six pupils. We lost Edward Whitley and Billie Lambert that year. Our teach- ers were Mr. Barnhardt, Mrs. Spencer, and Mrs. Lilly. We had several plays during the year. We entered the tenth grade with two new teachers-Mr. W. F. Daniels and Mr. L. W. Byrum, principal. , We had several movie parties this year. The high school went to see Gone With the Wind at the Paula Theatre in Mt. Pleasant. We lost Irene Lambert, Minnie Jane Williams, Inez Clark, Julia Mae Hatley, Trullie Furr, Rosalene Burris, Spencer Harwood, and Virgil Lambert, Jr. We gained Kenneth Efird and Tommy Whitley. The most exciting events of our Junior year were our Junior and Senior trip to Asheville and receiving our class rings. We had several class parties this year. Mr. Brooks Jerome came to fill a vacancy the latter half of the year. We lost two pupils this year-Kenneth Efird and Jewell Whitley. We gained two pupils, Juanita Smith and Jack Laxton, who came to us from Oakboro and Bethel respectively. On July 25, 1949 we entered our Senior year with sixteen happy Seniors. We had a new principal and a new high school teacher, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Dry. We enjoyed a weiner roast at Love's Old Mill and a wild hayride afterwards on the night of September 27, 1949. On December 21, the grademothers gave the Juniors and Seniors a Christmas party at Morgan's Cabin. We had great fun eating and danc- ing. Each student received a souvenir. - ---S-ai' H - 'Wit 1 : V , A QF' ?5'! i V: if V ' 4 I A V I , ' ' 1 b. I -' J g iii' T 4 -'li A 1 1' r' I ' N: 'A i WL Q? r - - ' ' .
