The Seniors had their glory on our initiation day, but really we feel more like Freshmen now. On February eighteenth, we held a party at school which we gave for the entire high school. Several of the boys served on the reserve basketball team. They were: Richard Goodwin, Richard Evans, Richard Putman, DeWayne Hyxnan, and Albert Swaney. Don Davis served as assis- tant manager. Dotty Lou Stewart and Bonnie Lu Logan were cheerleaders. The rest of our class sold at the basketball games. We are all looking forward to being the Sophomores of the years 1949 and 1950. 9 SIIPHIIMIIRIS President ------- Jim Moorman Vice-President-Jean Geisman Q K Secretary ------ Joan Johnson Treasurer---Helen Dunifon he wi 1 5. - Marilyn Youtsey ' ' J Jim Moorman S Barbara Hines n , J X -CD He len Dunifon .T Vernon Baxter 3 G? 4 Joan Johnson Q B 5' . 3. We have even enjoyed our lessons even though they were difficult at times. A wiener roast at Barbara I-Iine's house in October put the trim- mings on the fall weather nicely. We also had a Christmas Party at Joan Johnson's house. Many attended and brought gifts for an exchange. We will be looking forward to a summer vacation soon, but will be eager to start back to school again next fall. For then we will be Juniors and looking forward to our Senior year. 10 . .. The lilting strains of gay Cuban music and the catchy rhythms of the maracas and castanets gave the cue for the opening curtain of this year's musical activities as the high school presented its operetta, In Gay Havana , on October ZZ. Its unique setting formed an excellent background for the romantic aspirations of a band of American tourists who be- come involved in a Cuban revolution. Every moment was packed with excitement and sus- pense. Participation in the County Music Festival at Hoaglin-Jackson School March 14 was another high point in the year's activities. A Dutch village scene laid in the Catskill Mountains, home of Washington Irving's be- loved Rip Van Wink1e , was the setting for the grade children's presentation of this de- lightful story in an operetta on March 25. Special recognition goes to Larry Poling for his portrayal of the title role, to Vera Johnson, who portrayed Dame Van Winkle, Gary Stewart and Jeannie Haines as their children and to Hendrick Hudson and the Gnomes for their excellent supporting roles. Our school was represented at the District Auditions held at Bowling Green State Uni- versity March 26 by Dotty Lou Stewart, Sopranog Joan Johnson, Mezzo-Soprano, Bonnie Lu Logan, Pianist and the Girls Sextette. Bonnie Lu Logan received a superior rating and was privileged to play in the State finals at Capital University in Columbus on April 30. 23 5 ' 7 2 Ps 'i AV' .i:,'?TXi1?QT.iq' I P U ETX, X - . :: liar t' Qsf- I ' i f 1 'U Elia' X S K? It was The Junior, Senior Banquet was semi-formal. The Juniors' mothers prepared the meal, which was served by the Freshman girls. The theme for the prom was Serenade of the Bells . At one end of the gyni a white church was built and on each side of it was a cemetery in be- half of the departing Seniors. The graveyard had in it a tombstone for each Senior and on it stated how they died and when. The white tombstones on the green grass made a very impressive scene. The opposite end of the gyrn was covered with white crepe paper to look like white fence. Vining up the fence were red roses and green ivy. The side walls were done in blue and white strips. Available money arrives by wire when an old familyfriend telegraphs expense money for Henry's father to entertain the friend's two daughters over a week-end. But father is on atrip to Mexico, and the girls are arriving . . . and theyneed the money. The sogtion seems to be to pay a deposit on the rent and entertain the girls themselves. To keep them at the apartment, they needs must have a chaperon. This obstacle is overcome when P-Sam, the colored house-boy . . . who has no more brains than a mortal can and still live . . . finds on the ground outside the apartment house a grey wig and a black dress. P-Sam's mother had always told him that what he found on the ground he could keep. The articles cause the birth of Grandma, otherwise George, the perfect chaperon. Ilie down, and after a few moments of being fanned by the fresh, cool breeze, I am floated away into dreamland. Dreams of my school days come back to me. I remember the study hall sometimes with no teacher in charge and those tiny airplanes flying by, then I wonder what had happened to each of my classmates, and before I knew it, I can see them at their work or play. First I see Iolmny Eaken in a fine office, working for the Kroger Store. In front of his modern office sets a new Buick. I chat with him a few moments, and I discover that he has a wife and three lovely children. Then my dreams drift, and after a few moments I find a neat farm set among tall, stately trees. The doors swing open, and I enter, only to find Robert McCoy ahappily married man, eating his dinner which is late because of important farm work. The face of his wife isn't quite visible, so I can't say for sure who she is. In my dreams I see a huge airliner getting ready to land. Who do I see but .Tean Ellen Poe checking the passenger list, to see if everyone can be accounted for. We had always thought she was afraid to get her feet off the ground. All at once I see a young man coming across the firld to greet her. He is one I have never seen before, so maybe one of these days, I will receive a wedding invitation. Gosh, it seems divine just to lie here and dream of all my old classmates. Why, here comes Bonnie Long! She's married and has two sets of twins. Her husband is a traveling salesman, who sells tooth paste for the Scrubble Tooth Paste Company and she has a hobby of raising Chinese Crested dogs. Bonnie seems to be very happy. I am only sorry her husband is on one of his ,business trips, so I didn't get to meet him. Now my dreams drift back to the country again, where I find David Leathers in the field. Three tractors are at work, and on one I recognize David, and can tell by the expression on the other two faces that they are David's sons. It doesn't look as if David will be late getting his crops out. A fly must have bitten me for I awoke, and drifted back into sleep again, and find myself in a class toom, where Anna Lee Busch is the teacher.I see a set of Bonnie's twins standing in the corner. Anna Lee is now teaching fourth grade, where she has fifty four students. She seems very happy. Just then I turn over and come face to face with Dale Harter who has worked his way from tending hogs to being manager of the Marsh Farms. He closes his books, and leaves for home, where at the door he is greeted by his new wife, for I learn he has only been married'three days. Once morel find myself on a farm, and I wonder who is living in this beautiful old place, setting slightly off the road. I find Wilfred Davis out tending his flower gardens, where he has the most beautiful climbing roses. He is known throughout the U.S. for his flowers, and he has made a lot of money from them. My dreams drifted along but seemed to hover over a white picturesque farm house. I see Arlene out in' the yard with her husband, whom I met long ago, when we were in school. They were watching their four year old son swim 'in their back yard pool. They then enter the house, and it seems Arlene is living in a haven of happiness. There seems to be one of the class missing, why of course, Alice Good. Then I turned over and fell out of the hammock and broke my leg. The next thing I knew, I was in the hos- pital propped up against some pillows.'Then who do you think walked into my room? Alice, of course, who was to be my nurse. We chatted for a while about her private life where I found she had four sons, but was hoping for a daughter. She told me she was just helping while the hospital was short handed.
