PQI, V Rn Throughoul fhe ceniuries, while The sforms of war grew violenf and fhen abafed, man has needlessly suffered, because he failed fo under- sfand his fellow men. While fhe greaf philoso- phers, sociologisfs, and feachers of lhe world were saying fhaf nofhing would ever be gained wiihouf fhe mufual respecf of one human being for anofher, nafions confinued 'lo splif aparl' and empires crumpled. Many men died-ofhers were forfured. And whaf was fhe reason for lhis? The egofism which clouds all peoples' hearfs had made lhem unwilling 'ro affempf fo fafhom 'lhe 'Form of worship of ofhers. I+ would seem fhaf we have failed as yef lo learn fo live wilh one anofher. Buf progress is being made foday, because man is beginning fo realize fhaf fhere are many diflerenf philosophies of life. There is a word for fhisz lf is noi' Toler- ance, nor Accepfance, nor Conversion, buf Knowledge. For when one knows why anoiher believes as he does, and whaf his beliefs are based upon, fhere is no longer a reason fo quarrel when 'lwo conflicfing ideas are broughf face fo face. Thai fhis religious knowledge could resulf in fellowship does noi' appear fo be a revolufionary idea. However, in fhe pasl' few years, religious groups in colleges and universifies have been able fo succeed, for 'rhe firsf lime, in assembling and comparing ideas on various creeds. One of ihe greafesl' underfakings ever affempfed af Rider College has been fhe organi- zafion of fhe Inferfaifh Council, broughl' abouf by fhe idea fhal an undersfandable knowledge of ofher religions is necessary for people who expecf fo work hand-in-hand wifh fhose of ofher beliefs. Wifh lhis fhoughf in mind, 'ihe New- man, Trinify, Hillel, and Hellenic associafions have selecfed represenfafives who form 'lhe lnferfaifh Council, which frankly discusses religious concepfs. The members of 'lhe Council have fried lo undersfand 'lhe pracfices of all religions. A+ fhe same fime, fhey sfrive fo acquainf fhe sfudenf body wi+h fhe various religious clubs and fo en- courage membership in each. The primary aim, however, is a closer affinify among religious groups. To fhis aim-religious fellowship as a means of beffer undersfanding our fellow men-we, 'rhe class of I948, do dedicafe +his book. T e igioud jeffowd ip
