August Apparently Pays Off n August, while most people are lounging around the pool soaking up some of the last rays of summer, others are at school preparing for the new school year. This preparation includes everything from punting footballs to high kicks, learning new music to practicing new cheers, and, let us not forget the ever- precious air conditioning system. The Raider football team comes out two weeks before school starts to sharpen their techniques and practice their many drills. These drills, known as two-a-days, are held in the morning and again in the afternoon. The Rider Ranglers also begin practicing in August. They work on their precision timing and on their choreographed routines. The Pride of the Raiders Marching Band begins rehearsing in August to insure a terrific per- formance for the first football game. The cheerleaders prepare by practicing building pyramids and learning new cheers, They also practice twice each day. The school ad- ministration also planned ahead for the com- ing year by installing an air conditioning system. lt is obvious by the Raider's suc- cessful year that preparing for the future pays off. 1 Ya'll Come to Round Up 85 ne of the most popular traditions at Rider High School is Round-Up Week. Boots and Western wear could be seen throughout the halls worn by spirited Raiders during this time. The highlight of the week was the Round-Up Assembly. The assembly was held in the field house and had the theme of All My Raiders starring Scorpio, the rock singer, his bopping boppers, the senile doctor, and his family. The Spirit Specialists who brought Scorpio back to life were our very own Mr. and Miss Raider nominees. Mr. Jack Cline was named honorary Raider because of the abundance of spirit he expresses at Rider. The week drew to a close with the naming of Todd Owens and Lisa Van Geem as 1984-1985 Mr. and Miss Raider. This week, filled with tradition and excitement, proved to be interesting and fun for everyone at Rider. You mean he's NOT going to die? Let's get this show on the road!
