A was a story of ups and downs. Fortunately, the ups outweighed the downs to catapult this group of 86 juniors and seniors into becoming the greatest choir ever. Laboring methodically, the choir began to polish those first pieces and struggled to learn the all-important Christmas music. The work and determination of the yuletide season culminated into the final concert at Sikes Senter Mall. A crowd of at least 500 packed into J .C. Penney's court to hear the choir belt a nearly flawless concert. Then, A cap electrified the home of Director Don Cowan as members threw a party to epitomize what was known as our season. lt was also on this night that Mr. Cowan announced the choir had turned over the sign proclaiming it to be The Greatest Choir Ever. Fund raising is an important part of any organization and A cappella once again sold Spirit Ribbons to encourage football support. The headaches, though, of fund raising are manyg on money-due days, a choir member may end up with seven ribbons exactly alike, owning a two weeks supply of gum, or standing before the class with a demerit in hand and apologizing for not doing his part as a door-to-door salesman. At the beginning of the new year, members once again began from scratch to learn music. The new goals were to receive a sweepstakes at LllL contest, produce a memorable album and have a successful Spring Concert. The choir also had fun times. The annual Sweetheart Banquet was in early February and the group traveled to Six Flags Over Texas in April. Accomplishing their previous goals, the choir began work on their final concert, graduation. lt was there the choir members performed together for the last time, bringing tears to the eyes of countless graduates. Beautiful Savior, the choir's song for 21 years, was performed for the last time by this choir as the closing number. A feeling of sadness and fond memories was lingering in the hearts of A cappella members as the final chords of the choir faded. 22 Organizations A typical A cap member: always looking up Amy Gately is thrilled over Ronnie Sullivan's invitation to the choir banquet 1 l Angela Austin smiles as Mr. Cowan dumps his pipe in her ear
