presents.... School Daze!! 1 DEDICATION ROBERT WARREN CHURCH, BETTER KNOWN AS BOB, WAS BORN JUNE 1, 1923 IN BOISE, IDAHO. HE LIVED IN MANY DIFFERENT TOWNS AND ATTENDED MANY SCHOOLS INCLUDING POCATELLO, IDAHO. ONE OF HIS MOST NOTED PLACES OF RESIDENCE WAS ST. CLARA SHORES AND BURM-INGHAM, MICHIGAN. IT WAS DURING THIS PERIOD OF TIME THAT HE DEVELOPED A LOT OF HIS TOUGHNESS BECAUSE OF HIS MOTHER MAKING HIM WEAR KNICKERBOCKERS TO SCHOOL. BOB WAS EVENTUALLY DRAFTED INTO THE ARMY AND SERVED IN EUROPE DURING WORLD WAR II. ONE OF HIS MOST NOTABLE EXPERIENCES WAS WHEN HE AND HIS BROTHER SOLD THE ROOF OF ONE OF THE HANGERS TO SOME OF THE LOCAL FARMERS. NEEDLESS TO SAY, BECAUSE OF EXPERIENCES LIKE THIS, HE WENT INTO THE ARMY AS A PRIVATE AND WAS DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE. AFTER THE ARMY BOB MOVED TO THIS AREA IN 1946 AND BECAME A RANCHER. HE WENT TO WORK FOR THE RIDDLE SCHOOL DISTRICT IN JUNE, 1960 AS A CUSTODIAN, GROUNDSKEEPER AND BUS DRIVER. HE WILL TELL YOU THAT DURING HIS BUS DRIVING DAYS HE USED TENNIS SHOE DISCIPLINE. HIS CONTROL OF HIS PASSENGERS WAS SO GREAT THAT HE ONCE DROVE A BUS WITH 75 STUDENTS INTO THE CREEK AND ALL THE STUDENTS STAYED IN THEIR SEAT UNTIL BOB WAS THE FIRST TO LEAVE THROUGH THE ESCAPE HATCH AT THE REAR OF THE BUS. BOB HAS BEEN EMPLOYED BY THIS DISTRICT FOR 25 YEARS. IN THIS PERIOD OF TIME HE TOLD ME HE HAS HELPED GET RID OF 2 SUPERINTENDENTS, 6 PRINCIPALS AND 11 COACHES AND THAT WHEN HE RETIRES HE WILL HAVE MORE TIME TO DEVOTE TO THE CURRENT STAFF. BOB HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN OUR SCHOOLS BY BETTING AGAINST OUR TEAMS IN ATHLETICS FOR OVER 20 YEARS AND IS ALSO NOTED FOR HIS SUPPORT OF ACADEMICS. HE ONCE TOOK OUT AN AD IN THE RIDDLE SCHOOL NEWSPAPER FOR A $10.00 FIRST PRIZE TO THE WINNER OF AN ESSAY CONTEST ENTITLED, “WHY KIDS DON’T FLUSH TOILETS.” ONE PERSON DOES NOT MAKE AN ORGANIZATION, BUT I CAN TRUTHFULLY SAY THAT EVEN WITH THE RECORD THAT IS JUST STATED, BOB CHURCH WILL BE MISSED. IN HIS 25 YEARS HE HAS BROUGHT HARD WORK, CARING, AND A POSITIVE ATTITUDE AND FEELING TO THIS SCHOOL DISTRICT. HE HAS MADE WORKING WITH HIM AND SOMETIMES FOR HIM AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE. BOB CHURCH IS AN EMPLOYEE OF THIS DISTRICT THAT HAS DEFINITELY HELPED KIDS. LET ME INTRODUCE AN INDIVIDUAL THAT WAS INVOLVED IN BURNING THE OLD SCHOOL DOWN AND STILL KEPT HIS JOB. MR. BOB CHURCH. We would like to dedicate this year’s Shamrock to Bob Church for his 25 years of service to the Riddle School District. Bob will long be remembered for his talents as groundskeeper, custodian, and bus driver. His sense of humor has brightened many a face and many a day. His enthusiastic support of the sports' pro-gram has been overwhelming. 3 Susan Anderson James Bruce Doug Collins Kurk Chambers Brenda Currier Duane Bergman Chris Chicote Rob Donaldson 4 Roy Elias Matt Funston Mike Kurtz David Lopez Helen MacDonald Frank McCart 5 Scott Everett Mike Hurley Julie Linton Rob McCorkle Berniece Miller Cory Nichols Jarvis Pettingil Willie Scott Angie Montgomery Kim Ostburg Jodi Pettingil Wilma Scott 6 Ross Stremca Tina Thompson Tara Traylor Julie Linton taking a daily nap. Barabra Coyle has written the screenplay with High School, Junior High, and Grade School Students, teachers, staff, parents, and community members as the cast and crew. “THE GROWING SEASON” storyline centered around two young men, Aaron Frahm and Carl Lunderstadt, who find themselves thrown together after being unfairly blamed for a bomb threat at a high school they attend. The situation worsens when the two lads decide to avenge their honor by constructing a real bomb to plant in the school. The movie has been filmed entirely on location in Riddle using Riddle High School, Riddle Public Library, Donna’s Restaurant, and homes of the Dawsons, Aikins, and Frahms. Publicity for the movie was impressive and widespread. We were featured in the February 7, 1985 Oregonian and several times in the Roseburg News-Review as well as newspapers in Myrtle Creek, Corvallis, Albany, Grants Pass, Klamath Falls, and several papers in Washington State. We were also on several TV news programs throughout the state and on radio talk shows on KMTR and KPIC. The movie was supported greatly by community members and businesses with donations of money, time, and the often needed pat on the back. The students were determined to fulfill their dream and have put in hundreds of hours, of their time to prove that dreams do come true. Without this support and determination the movie would have still been only a dream. ■iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiniiii 75 76 “THE GROWING SEASON” CAST ! i I | I I f 1 Daryl Brandon......................................Aaron Frahm Sophomore Shane Zelin'ski.................................Carl Lunderstadt Sophomore Del Brandon.........................................Curtis Black Senior Lois Brandon......................................Sherry Dawson Adult Community Member Ran Montgomery...............................................Rob McCorkle Freshman Shelby Gates...............................................Jodee Pettengill Freshman Kitty Lou Summers...............................Tabatha Joy Webb Seventh Grade Stacy Elwood...............................................Stacy Gatlin Junior Flower Kane...............................................Bonnie Aikins Adult Community Member Billy Sutton.....................................Juan Navarro II Freshman Mr. Goodman...................................Martin.
