School started off in the fall with cross country and football. Everyone remembers Ronnie Witt and his floppy hat. Runners with him were Dan Knapp. Stan Hall, and Joe Pospisil. The wrestling team consisted mainly of Sophomores; holding top places were Phil Mills-Price and Ted Kelly. The 1969 Football Season was a building year for the Riddle Irish. Although the team played in several close, exciting contests, the team record for the year was 0-9. With just five seniors on the squad, the Irish will have the promise of many returning lettermen for next year. The team had a poor record, but they never let down and always fought hard to represent our school. John Johnson struggles loose and breaks away from the would-be tackier. Dolly Witt perched high atop the winning Junior The 1969-70 Homecoming Parade was an exciting happening that took the streets of Riddle completely by surprise this fall. The parade contained many fine floats and three different bands. Cars carried the court, and firetrucks, police cars, and decorated bicycles helped to add to the thrill of it all. The Tam O’Shanters helped with signs in the half time activities. Mr. Briery gives Coach Bateman a Secret Weapon!!! The High school Band entertained the crowd during half time of the big game. A PLUNGER!!! Instructions: If this doesn’t clean Drain out nothing will.. Nothing did.... Homecoming week was an unforgetable five days. Monday started off with Hillbilly day and the Freshmen’s spirit skit. Tuesday was spent warming bottles and changing diapers as the theme was Kiddie Day and ended with a skit by the Sophomores. The Junior’s day was Clash Day. And the week came to a quiet close with Thursday being Hush Day and the Senior’s day for skits. Thursday night was the night of the big bonfire, where students anxiously awaited and heard the naming of the court. Friday was the Faculty’s Irish day. Although the Riddle Irish were not league champions in track this year, they did have several outstanding trackmen. Mike O’Sullivan and Jerry Deal gave a fine representation for Riddle in all the meets. Taking fifth in the Riddle Metric showed that this year’s team could and did score, but all firsts do not win a meet: and Riddle lacked enough boys to place behind the firsts as backups. Riddle’s Thinclads will lose five seniors which will cause a great gap in the team. Next year, however, good trackmen are coming up from the junior high and will be able to fill in.
