Their main concern throughout the year has been to plan and put on the most beautiful and successful banquet and prom in the history of our school. Ever ready to try something new, the class made plans to put the prom on at the Counrty Club in Roseburg. Raising money through concessions and other activities, deciding on theme, colors, etc. and all the while keeping up the image of upperclassmen, filled these memorable days. A moment of seriousness prevails as Bob Church displays his award he received as “Lay Citizen of Riddle” on May 8, 1968. Hard at work is Mrs. Deal as she tries to keep our school spotlessly clean. Each morning finds our school looking much better than it did at 3:30 the previous day. This is the nocturnal magic of Ruth Hausotter, whom the students seldom see, but appreciate greatly. Bob’s job consists of many different duties, one of which is working at the track; keeping it marked, ect. A prominent figure at Riddle High, he is best known for his willingness to help the students eat their lunches. STUDENT COUNCIL The 1967-68 Student Body Officers were: W. Oh, just another news item to add. The second semester Green R staff included two new members-P. Juhl and A. Metcalf. Throughout the entire year Mr. Steen was the advisor and E. Mitchell the editor with S. Criswell the assistant editor. For some students this was their second year on the staff. Having received a credit the first year, no credit was given and their time was a donation. The Shamrock staff was led by an efficient group of editors. These included standing P. David Steen Tom Keele The fall of 1967 saw these seniors, Steen and Keele, run their last for Riddle High School. The 1967 Irish Cross Country team was composed of two seniors, four sophomores, and one freshman. The lack of participants, depth, and experience seldom left the Irish on top in the scoring. The hard work and high spirit showed up and made up for part of the difference. There were three home meets and a number of away meets. The season climaxed with the league meet at South Umpqua. Beginning the season with only five returning veterans, the Irish wrestling team met on the mats of the Glide Wildcats and proceeded through the state tournament. Due to the lack of depth and overall strength, scorewise the team was seldom on top, but owing to extreme desire and the coaching of Neal Bateman, they eventually captured fourth place at district, sending three division champions on to State. Wrestlers: L. Witt, B. Claxton, D. Wigle, P. Mills-Price, R. Wilborn, D. Thomas, C. Pollock, L. Bergstrom, D. Owens, and J. Gaedecke. Britt Claxton The absence of these two wrestlers will leave a gap in the upper weight divisions next year, but due to the excellent leadership, the future squad will again represent the fighting Irish, as in the past.
