l SU PERINTENDE NT'S MESSAGE There is little doubt but what the School Annual is one of the most treasured possess- ions of most high school students. Personally, I have always enjoyed reviewing my own annuals as well as those of the students whom I have served as an administrator. Thus, when I try to phrase a message to you, I strive to challenge myself to say some- thing that will mean as much to you in future days for more soy, as it does now. Education, in itself, is a way of life. To those students who wish to take their right- ful and useful place in society as adults, there are several major phases in learning. First is home training. Second, for many, is the church. Next is the public school-- usually 12 years of it. The next phase, before adulthood is reached, depends upon how you have responded to the others. It may be college, or your first job. Wasted time or poor preparation may hinder your success. Thus, I urge you to seek guidance and knowledge diligently. Learned men have long since proven their value beyond your ability to disprove them. Patrick Henry said, I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided and that is the lamp of experience. I know no other way of judging the future but by the past. The school is here to help you. Let it--that your own future may be more successful! Kenneth A. Stuart, Superintendent of Schools 4

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE The challenge of 1958 looms large in ever increasing unsolved problems. Again the challenge of solution is thrown directly upon the youth of our nation. Ours is an increasing world of technical, scientific, political, economical, and social significance. Lest we lose our democratic heritage, we must take gigantic strides in gaining and maintaining world leadership in the above fields. We call on tomorrows leaders, the youth of today, to face this challenge and find a lasting solution. But youth must realize that mere maturation to adulthood will not qualify them to provide the necessary leadership. Leaders of tomorrow will require a wisdom built on an. education that has provided mastery in the necessary fields. If this is the case, then the youth of today must take full advantage of the educational opportunities that are offered, and pursue a course that will enable them to qualify for the tasks of tomorrow. The Democratic Way of Life, has given us a nation that rises to challenge, the youth of the nation will meet the challenge. Will you be able to qualify for your role in this challenge of tomorrow? 5 Donald E. Brown, Principal Riddle High School
