However, right now the majority of you are so busy with the joy of living as depicted in these activities of the school plus your own personal affairs that school means only the place where you do something - not learn something. As administrators and teachers, the faculty strives to teach the fundamentals needed to prepare you for relative success in the world and also to lend proper guidance to your other activities. Clear thinking, clean living, hard working men and women are sorely needed for the tasks ahead. Education may appear to be a waste of time to some of you. True, a few of you will be world-beaters and nothing can stop you. You will dig knowledge out of books later for yourself after the day's work is done. But success depends upon more than ability, industry, and luck-you must also have self-confidence, integrity, poise, and the ability to be at ease with other people. These things you can not learn by goofing off in school where there are real lessons to be learned. I trust that each student, graduate or underclassman, will be able to look back on your high school days in years to come and feel that they were happy, fruitful years. To each is given a bag of tools, A shapeless mass and a book of rules; And each must make, ere life has flown, A stumbling block, or a stepping stone. Best wishes for your Future, Kenneth A.
