Id the fall of 1947 seven scared Freshmen-Robert Strode, William Vaughn, Albert Hausotter, Shirley Weathers, Emma Jean Matlock and Phyllis Swanson marched into the halls of Riddle High School full of hopes of the good times to come. But the hopes of these seven Freshmen were soon taken away by the wishes that the upperclassmen had made and were going to fulfill during initiation, Which lasted three days. Officers of the class for our first year in high school were President-Bob Strode, Vice-President-William Vaughn, and Secretary-Shirley Weathers. The class elected Emma Jean Matlock as their candidate for carnival queen. In our Sophomore year we increased our ranks to eleven members gaining Betty Wagoner from Argas, Indiana, Isa Macdonald from Scotland, Doris Hollingsworth from Jacksonville, Oregon, and Erwin Harmon from California. This year we dished out punishment to the lowly Freshman class. Officers for this year were President-Robert Strode, Vice-President-William Vaughn, Secretary-Doris Hollingsworth. Candidate for carnival queen this year was Doris Hollingsworth. As Juniors we received our class rings. We put on the play Feuding in the Hills which went over very good. The Junior-Senior banquet was given by us on May 6. We also worked very hard to become Seniors of 1950-51. Class officers for this year were Doris Hollingsworth-President, Bill Vaughn-Vice-President, Shirley Weathers-Secretary. Again this year the class elected Doris Hollingsworth for carnival queen candidate. As Seniors we sponsored the first Homecoming aided by the rest of the student body. At mid-term we lost two girls-Shirley Weathers, and Jean Renhard who decided to get married. Our play for this year was very successful. Officers for this year were Robert Strode-President, Doris Hollingsworth-Vice-President and Shirley Weathers-Secretary. Doris Hollingsworth was Senior class candidate for Homecoming queen. We will now be free to face the world and make the best of the things that we have learned at good old Riddle High School. 8
